Description

Two male and two female Rufous Hummingbirds sharing a nighttime snack on our acreage in South West British Columbia, Canada. It is very unusual for Rufous Hummingbirds to be so 'friendly' towards each other anywhere near our feeders. I was very surprised to see this wonderful interaction, mind you, this 'friendliness' only happened for a few seconds and the feeder was a flurry of aggressive territorial activity again!

Yes I am surprised that 4 would feed together! Also, I didn't know they ate at night. I suppose this was still early evening. I have never seen these in our area; we jsut have the ruby-throated hummingbirds but they are just as aggressive in guarding their food supply! #1303433

Carol, I can just picture your lovely Hummingbirds exercising the same 'defend the feeders at all times' as the Rufous normally do. This image was taken just before dusk so by all intent it was still early evening so you are correct! 'My' Hummers are the first to feed in the wee early morning and the very last to feed well into dusk. Sometimes I can hardly see them in the almost darkness but I can sure hear them. Fun times for me. #8876511
