The King

Uploaded: August 28, 2010

Description

This fellow comes to my yard only occasionally to challenge the younger male who has laid claim to our feeder. He gets a lot of respect from the others. Canon 100-400mmL IS lens, ISO 400, f/5.6, 1/250sec, taken just before sunset.

JoAnn, I see that you spend a good deal of time shooting hummingbirds. It's funny how we can become familiar with the specific features and habits of a given bird, and how our brain then thinks of them as being a given size that is far bigger than they truly are. That is because you and I spend hours awaiting their arrival with our eye glued to those big lenses. When I see them with the naked eye I am reminded how tiny they really are. You have some lovely hummingbird shots. What brazen creatures they are. #9657237
