Cowbird fledgling

Uploaded: August 26, 2010

Description

This adorable Brown-headed Cowbird fledgling was posing for me on our acreage in South West British Columbia, Canada, August 26th, 2010, at 13:41pm. The charmer is being raised by a pair of Dark-eyed Juncos, along with two of their own Junco species. To watch the interaction between this Cowbird and the adoptive Junco parent, easily almost half the Cowbird's size, was an awesome experience for me today.

Very cute! I have never seen a young one! Funny how the cowbird lays its eggs in other birds' nests! #1302201

Wonderfully detailed, Maureen, and the softly blurred background is great for showing him off. #8864211

Many thanks Carol and Nikki for your welcome comments and your time. Yes Carol it is most interesting about the Cowbirds not builing their own nests or raising their young themselves. I found a lot of information about the reasons on the Internet. Thanks again gals :) #8865558
