~Animals~ Not often I can't come up with a title, I was lucky that I did not need to crop this shot, just a natural pose. I am a saddened to learn that this Eastern Grey Joey (she looked around 12 months of age) could be amongst the Kangaroos that may be culled at Morisset Hospital because of over-population and fears of safety towards the public. Culls always seem to be somewhat haphazard what with mass panic and hysteria.
We went to the Wildlife Refuge on a Photo shoot with fellow BP'eers Tony and Chris Ebben, John and Margaret Connolly and had a wonderful afternoon amongst good company and the native fauna, beautiful animals, just beautiful wild creatures. ~Pat and Graham

After reading the plight of the Eastern Grey Joey, I think your title is perfect PatA wonderful capture

I remember this cute little character Pat! This is a wonderful capture, and we all share your thought on the proposed culling!Michelle Alton August 21, 2010
She's too pretty to cull....they all are! #8853437Chris Ebben August 21, 2010
Just beautiful. I know just how you feel on this one. I'll be getting on to the council & NATF tomorrow & complain!!! So pleased we got together to see this lot, Tony & I had lovely time=^..^= #8853474Barbara Waldoch August 21, 2010
Terrific capture, Pat! #8853488Phillip R. Connolly August 21, 2010
A great capture, Pat! Culls are always sad to see take place. The problem at the hospital grounds is that it is a safe haven with pleanty of food and the numbers have grown so much in recent years. Of course, now with the impending development of the site, the numbers would be way to high. Eventually they will all have to go from there, so I just hope they will survive in the nearby bush! I guess the development will have a natural way of pushing them out and back into their habitat. I for one will be very sorry to see them disapear, as it is one of the few areas that you can take people to, to see them wild and in numbers. A great shame! I love your image!Phil #8853586

What a beautiful animal, Pat! It looks like it stopped to pose for you during a delicious (ha!) meal, too! Wonderful colors & pose! #8853770Barbara Mason August 21, 2010
A lovely image Pat - shame about the culling - I know it happens to wild horses we have in the North Island, it just seems soooo very sad !!! #8853895Graham Robards August 21, 2010
Hello my friends,Thankyou so much for your kind words. It took me four hours before I could bring myself to look at the shots. I'm afraid I wear my heart on my sleeve.
When looking at the jpegs from RAW files I wrote down the number of this one as it jumped out at me, the feeling I felt was right there.
As you say Mel, the Joey looks aware of his fate and that's what I wanted to capture.
Phil, I didn't know about more development plans for up there. The land is worth a fortune for sure for developing.
Chris, I don't think there is any stopping to greed, there must be financial gain somewhere for this to happen.
How this place could be declared a Wild Life Refuge in 1902 and now some idiot has proclaimed the animals should die is quite beyond me.
Barbara, I saw your wild horses in the North Island, such beautiful creatures. I guess I can understand why they have to cull but I don't like the way it is done.
Animals fear, the same way we fear. Mass panic should be avoided but to is done the cheapest way, a blood bath slaughter.

A wonderfull wildlife capture Pat!!I think it would be more appropriate to cull some of the bad decision makers in Australia!!How they get a job in the first place is beyond me!Laura E. Swan August 22, 2010

Thankyou Elen Joy, Lala, Brett and Tiia for visiting the gallery, I wanted you to see the plight of our dear Kangaroo. I'll keep you updated. Not all Australians are cruel. We should do as Brett suggest, cull some of the bad decision makers.

So sad to hear of their impending fate. I would be up in arms too. Humans, not all of us thankfully, think we have the right to decide what lives and what doesn't. Perhaps you should send this photo in to the papers and raise some awareness. It's a beautiful image tinged with sadness. #8854873Renata Gusciora August 22, 2010

OM GOSH! Pat! I missed your meaning here. I have never heard the word "Cull" before. Does this mean Put Down? (Put to sleep?) I just read all of the comments and I think so. :(((((((((((Why dont they just FIX them so they cant have more babies and stop putting them to sleep? I dont understand...
:( So sorry I made light of this one. I had no idea. #8866219

Hi there dear little sister, I understood and knew you misread it as you were in a hurry packing to go away.Yes Cull means to kill, but not in a kind way, mass panic. Even though darted and then euthenised the animals suffer a lot of stress.
Such as this.
Canberra cull Not all culls are the same, the Roos are shot down.
Not all calls are publicised either, there was one last week at Wagga Wagga.
Mostly those who leave comments underneath the video are the aggressive type who kill the animals so need to stick up for their sick reasons.

Terrible. I don't even know what to say. I watched the attached youtube. I feel sick. They need to be stopped from killing them and the animals should be "fixed" so the population will drop if they are so worried about it. Kangaroos are such beautiful animals and have such kind faces and families and have a right to live! #8868209
Graham Robards August 28, 2010
There is worse up there Lala.Kangaroo shooting in Australia isn't really of much concern to the Government, too many greedy people with a finger in the pie that benefit from their death.
The shooting is the largest land-based commercial wildlife slaughter in the world so "fixing" them so they can't breed is counter-productive. The public has been told it was tried but didn't work,
Here is a link . HERE
Some nice comments, a lot of folk don't know the meat is not fit
for human consumption. Russia has banned the importing of it until we
have bette hygiene. Australians who respect the coat of arms don't eat Kangaroo, like you guys eating the American Bald Eagle
Maybe folk think when they see Kangaroo on sale at the supermarket there are such things as Kangaroo farms and we raise and kill humanely.
Nope, in the dead of night . xxx

Wow, Pat - what a beautiful capture of this sweet joey!! They have the most gorgeous faces!! I looked at the YouTube story for which you posted the url above...and it really is sickening... Oh dear...I don't eat red meat anyway...but, after seeing that clip, there's certainly NO way you'd ever get me to eat kangaroo meat...and as you have stated, it is one of the animals on our coat of arms, along with the emu, so...go figure!! :o( #8872828

Stunning captures Pat .. I love the light and pose of this one ~ great shot. It makes me so sad ~ and mad ~ when I read of culling these beautiful native animals ... here it seems some farmers have now won the right to cull badgers on their land ~ we should learn to live with nature, not against it! #8901107Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
