Description

Mayon Volcano, also known as Mount Mayon, is one of the most active volcanos in the world. Mayon is located in the province of Albay, on the island of Luzon, in the Philippines, 15 kilometres northwest of Legazpi City. Mayon is well known for its shape, which is almost a perfect conical shape. Despite its volcanic activity, it is both a major tourist attraction, and cultivated by abaca farmers, because of its fertile slopes. Since 1616, over 30 eruptions have been recorded, with major eruptions in 1993 , 2000 and 2006. Mount Mayon is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is the area where most earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. The Ring of Fire spans all coasts of the Pacific Ocean, including South America, North America, Alaska, China, Japan, Java and New Zealand.
