The reason this is one of my favorites is that every summer for 25 years I have heard Wood Thrushes, but never been able to see one. They most often sing from the tops of tall trees and are not conspicuous. I was so fortunate to have my tripod and equipment set up when one suddenly appeared on a bare branch in front of me and began to sing loudly. I was unable to change position or any of the settings for fear of frightening it away, but I did get a the shot.
