British Waters
Uploaded: September 30, 2005
400/1 @ F22. ISO 400.
Placed a print of the Union Jack under a bowl of water and then filled the bowl to about an inch deep with water.
Had to use strong lighting to get a high enough shutter speed at F22.
Cropped in photoshop. Also had to clone out the odd bit of dust that was floating in the dish.

Congrats Darren.. this is a wonderful image and very deserving of the finalist. I like how the flag image looks like it's wavy and how the drop caught the image of the flag on the way back up.. wonderful job. I have been meaning to try this and I think you may have inspired me to give it a go .. Good luck in the next round :~) #1981316Cathy M. Gromball October 22, 2005 0

Great Image and it's so nice to see something other than the flag from the USA, CONGRATS AND MAY OTHER FLAGS RULE,:) #1985331Scott Borger November 07, 2005 0
What lens did you use, and what mode on your camera. How far was your lens zoomed in? Also, what kind of light did you use. This picture is amazing. #2045583Darren Smith November 07, 2005 0
Thanks for all the generous feedback folks.Scott, I used the kit lens for this one (18-55mm) zoomed all the way in.
The light was strong daylight from a patio door along with a reflector. Also the flag was printed on white glossy paper and this helped reflect even more light.
I had to use Aperture Priority for the shot as I wanted as much depth of field as possible, I went with F22 as this still game me a reasonable shutter speed.
Glad you liked it, thanks
