A restored 1936 American Airlines DC-3 sits next to the more modern Boeing 767 at Alliance Airport in Fort Worth Texas. I chose to juxtapose these two aircraft to give a sense of Before & After. This image is a single frame - compressed with the lens

Ever heard the name, Edward Daly, who owned WORLD AIRWAYS? Mac flights all over the world out of Oakland Calif. from the 50-80's? That's where I worked for just under 10 years. :)

Well, that's what I get for assuming! Ha! Sorry about that!

Well, I was never the pilot (To answer YOUR question) but I did have some really interesting jobs while I worked for the Airlines. It would take me 4 hours to tell you but I was hired to work at the ticket counter but ended up in RES because they were short handed.

I did that for a year then started a Tour Desk for them and ran that for 5 yrs. Mainly HAWAII! Then Europe. Then the DC10's got grounded. All we flew were DC10's (series 30's) so tons of folks lost their jobs. They kept me and I did OODLES of odd jobs...wherever they could use me. It was a LOT of fun! That's where the other 3 hours and 55 minutes would be. Telling you. :)

Everything from Revenue acct to a Fork Lift driver! I kid you not! Jobs I would have NEVER EVER applied for or tried to do, I -DID-! It was really cool and I was really young! Why not!?!?!?

I did spend time in the cockpits, Jeff, but going down through the trap door into the nose cone to remove rotables (sp) that needed repairs and putting in the repaired ones. HA! I was ALSO the person that drove aircraft parts all around the bay area in a van to get them fixed. That job was called a "Parts Mover". I worked in shipping and receiving as well and behind the counter in the HANGER issuing out parts...(Are you getting the wild picture???!!!)

Any aircraft image gets my attention! I never got to ride in a Dakota but sat in the left seat a number of times while on the ground at airshows and museums and dreamed! I pictured hundreds of these from English airfields on D-day over the DZs in France although I was only six when that was happening. Later as an air Training Corps cadet I did get a flight in a Lancaster and an Anson of that era plus several other post WW2 types.
I am not in love with American Airlines Jeff. I live near St Louis, Mo. and fly back to the UK every summer to London Gatwick (I have a sister just a few miles from there so it is more convenient for her to pick us up there rather than LHR) Any way, when I first emigrated here 16 yrs ago I could get direct 8hr flights on TWA but as soon as they were aquired by AA, Lambert was no longer a hub and now I have 12-14 hr flights with the change-overs. In three days time I shall be on a Delta flight doing just that at Atlanta and muttering curses at every AA desk I pass!

Thanks Peter - Glad that I could provide a place for you to vent.... My expereince is a little different with A'A. They have taken me all over the world and provided me with great service (most of the time) and I have over 300,000 Air Miles with them. After being in the Middle East in a Combat Zone for months, seeing the A'A on the tail of an aircraft after arriving in Europe was a very welcome sight for me. That aircraft was a piece of home and a symbol of the Free World. Traveling can be a big challenge for all of us and we all have a story to tell.....!
