Stunning butterfly and capture Jeff ~ you can keep the water moccasin thank you! #8618921Gord MacEachern May 18, 2010
Lucky for us we only have one poisonous snake. A rattler and he is on the endangered list, pretty rare.Stephen Zacker May 18, 2010
Amazing capture and detail. Like the simplicity. #8618951Douglas Pignet May 18, 2010
Good headsup warning...Great capture and colors Jeff #8618953Tammy M. Anderson May 18, 2010
Great advice to go along with these fantastic images, Jeff. Last Summer I contacted Lyme Disease from one of our many excursion in the woods. Took awhile to get over and many weeks of antibiotics. But I still can't resist the woods and mountains. Love the top image. Excellent details and composition. In nature you have to take the good with the bad. #8618964Linda M. Walker May 18, 2010
Beauty and the beast? Well done,Jeff #8618981Michael G. Marshall May 18, 2010
Wonderful images, Jeff! Michael #8618983Carolyn M. Fletcher May 18, 2010
We just killed one of these in our back yard a couple of weeks ago. The dog has a certain "snake bark", so I always know when he finds one and we come running with the shovel. #8618985Jack Gaskin May 18, 2010
Jeff Great Butterfly on the thistle.I saw you comment on the snake yesterday. Used to spend summers in S.Va. as a Kid and I'm quite familiar w/these BAD BOYS.
They are VERY INTERESTING to watch if not disturbed.
Happy Shooting

Beautiful butterfly capture Jeff... glad you noticed the snake before he went after you....hope you had a long lens with which to shoot him. #8619071Marilyn Cornwell May 18, 2010
Jeff - such a fabulous image - the length is superb! The benefit of that upper latitude in Toronto is the lack of poisonous things - that our snakes are cute and I get to delight if I see a little Garter Snake in my garden. #8619111
Agnes Fegan May 18, 2010
Beautiful butterfly image ... I could do without the snake lol. I wonder how fast they go! #8619130Ray Thoms May 18, 2010

Fantastic photo Jeff, great colors, lighting, comp and details. I only ever see dugites and tiger snakes here when I am out in the field. #8619535Debra R. Harder May 18, 2010
WOW, Jeff...this is OUTSTANDING!! Excellent details, lighting, colors, DOF and composition. Looks like another winner to me!! Deb #8619603R. J. Laudenbacher May 18, 2010
Beautiful capture of this butterfly Jeff. The colors and lighting and your DOF is perfect. You are so right about the warning. I did the same thing one time and was laying on a bush to get a shot only to realize that the bush had two big water snakes curled up almost where I had been laying. I learned then...to look before you lean!!! #8619650Marty Straub May 18, 2010
Great capture of the butterfly and thistle, Jeff. Amazing detail. It looks like butterfly on a stick. You're right about the rattler over the moccasin, too. #8619656Karen Celella May 18, 2010
Your DOF really makes this butterfly image a masterpiece Jeff. I'm usually wishing to see a snake when we are in those areas. It would be so exciting! But I hope I'm never dumb enough to get in trouble with one. #8619677Jessica Jenney May 18, 2010
Beautiful capture, color and terrific detail and DOF, Jeff! #8619688Ron McEwan May 18, 2010

Wow, what a beauty. At least a rattler gives a warning. #8620482Randy D. Dinkins May 18, 2010
Beautiful shot of the swallowtail and very nice capture of the cottontail. I will, as others above, stick with the former. I've not had the "privilege" to meet the latter face to face, but knew they were pretty well ubiquitous while in OK and Texas. #8620524Kitty R. Rodehorst-Hanna May 18, 2010
The swallowtail shot is most incredible, Jeff! Well...so is the cottonmouth but lets just leave it at that, OK! :-) k #8620591Barbara Waldoch May 18, 2010

Oh, excellent, excellent, excellent! Wonderful and uniquely presented capture and view of my favorite butterfly in action, doing what she likes to do most - find a thistle, hang on and enjoy the meal! Looks like a well-deserved winner to me, Jeff! (Your cautions are well-taken - it never pays to be oblivious to your surroundings when out in nature.) #8623762Murry Grigsby May 20, 2010
