One of my favorite views in the cathedral is this stairwell leading to the north balcony; the stairs were given an elaborate, open treatment, visible from the nave. Entering at the iron gate, the stairs take 6 right-turns at landings, roughly forming a square-sided spiral upwards to the balcony. Something about the trio of arches involved - the large arch encasing the entire stairwell, then the two smaller arches on different levels - the gateway arch, and the first landing... it always appeals to me! I've tried photographing it many times, but there are always rows of chairs in the foreground (where I'm standing for this composition) so I was thrilled to try a few takes during the "Clearing of the Nave" event this week. 4-exposure HDR.
