DAWN REDWOOD & friend [Redwood Tree Pictures ]
Uploaded: December 02, 2011 02:38:20
----
Had a wonderful day last Friday, strolling around the Princeton University campus. This immense Dawn Redwood graces the grounds of Prospect House (the past home of six University Presidents, including Woodrow Wilson).
-----
The late November weather was brilliant--70F, light breezes, partly cloudy skies.

What a beautiful old tree, Michelle, and I bet it's seen some history! Just imagine all those past presidents admiring it too. Love the little animal there as well. (What is it?) #9845691Michelle Alton December 03, 2011
The little animal is a gray squirrel...there are thousands of the around the campus. Also, the town of Princeton has a large colony of the black variant of gray squirrel. Or at least they once did. I can't recall seeing any of them lately. #9845749Marijana Fajgl December 03, 2011

Ah what a great capture with the squirrel to boot! #9846371Michelle Alton December 04, 2011
I just read that this tree was six feet tall and its trunk was the breadth of a human arm when it was transplanted to this spot in 1948. It now stands over 116 feet tall, with a 19-ft circumference. Impressive. I also read that the Princeton campus has many giant elm trees that escaped the blight that killed most of those stately trees in the U.S. I must return in Spring with a new eye for the trees!Rona L. Schwarz December 04, 2011
Wonderful composition, Michelle! I love the juxtaposition of this giant redwood with the little squirrel. Have never seen a redwood that was not on the West coast. Sounds like Princeton has a plethora of gorgeous trees. #9847944Steve M. Harrington December 04, 2011
What a wonderful tree! And a bonus squirrel perfectly placed in the composition! :)Brad Harding December 05, 2011
