Hi everyone (Janet, Jen, Kenneth, Damian, Sherri, Karen and Bonnie)

These creatures are always very aggressive and curious, moving from side to side and forth and back - and they seem only to stand still in order to get a chance to attack you, so it was actally by risking my lens, that the shot finally "got home". I tried several times, and the bird´s mood did't improve(!) - and as you can see: In macro mode it is very close!!! Only a few centimeters. The depth of field reveals an unsharp - and very hard - tip of the bill.

What exactly is this creature? A short version of an ostrich? It doesn't look real happy! :- ) #360276

Alan V. Hansen February 03, 2004

Hi Janet

I think it is a nandu - a smaller kind of ostrich. Maybe 150 cm tall. But still very aggressive.
