Sorry to be a spoil-sport but it appears I am the only person who thinks this picture is not very good. I don't like the balance or composition... and the perspective is wrong. The colours/contrasts are also not harmonious. The large empty white space at the top is also jarring. It is like something has been left out. It is trying to be a "graphic"... but it has failed (I am a graphic designer). Sorry to say this.... but these pages are for feedback (good and bad). #5438811

As I said, sorry to be a pain... but it is my opinion. I also believe one gets more form "criticism" than does from praise. Praise helps you along and keeps you going at it, but it can keep you going at the wrong stuff. Criticism is better (providing your skin is tough) and it can get you on the right track. After saying all that, I can see why many people like it... but the truth of the matter is that the perspective is wrong and nobody can deny this (on this point alone my comments are justified). I am not trying to hurt anyone. I am trying to help. #5439057

You are missing the point, and the fact you have gone into my site to "compare" implies you are trying to justify I am wrong and you are right. The perspective is wrong in the popcorn picture. Admit that then I am right. If you say it isn't, then you don't know what you are talking about. I don't want to get into any arguments. Surely the whole point of feedback is a two-way street (good and bad... or can you only take the good stuff?).
The perspective is WRONG (admit it)... and in turn this means the whole picture is wrong and is "not good". You have to be very careful when you "combine" two different pictures into one. It is not just a case of playing in Photoshop and saying how great it is. The picture is trying to be a graphic and it has failed miserably. Sorry for being blunt, but it is true. If the picture was good, I would be the first to say so (but it isn't).
Maybe you are just trying to be nice and defend the owner. I commend you for your efforts, but the picture is not good. Shall we all say it is good when it isn't just to make someone feel good. That is a pointless exercise. One will learn nothing from that.
You stated her images are much better than mine. That is your opinion and you have every right to say so.... and so do I with hers. #5439237

Cathy, your photo is wonderful and Mr. B is Out to Lunch! OBVIOUSLY, it is not meant to be a realistic Slice of Life! Perspective!! This is probably the type of comment Van Gogh had to listen to... and the reason he eventually went mad! ("There should be no rings around the lights.") Where do these people come from??? Hope they will return, wherever it is! Congratulations on your VERY striking Photo of the Day! #5441184Cathy Barrows February 04, 2008
thanks so much everyone...he is entitled to his opinion, but I have no respect for it #5441315Roger Bernabo February 04, 2008
I love your shot Cathy!!! The only improvement I'd make would be to make the background purple! Such a picky point though! #5441840Darryl Wilkinson February 04, 2008
I get the point, Cathy! Looks like a great AD to me...can I get the "Kettle" brand next time? :) #5442956

I did not know she had won anything.Constructive criticism is better than worthless waffle.
One should embrace any ciriticism. I do, because you learn more.
It will make us all better at what we do.
If you can't stand the heat... etc etc.
I am amazed at the reaction overall... I am trying to help a fellow photographer (and in this instance it is in an area that is my "profession" (ie: graphics) of which I have 35 years experience in all facets of the industry.
The whole point of display/exhibition in this media is for open discussion.
It one can't offer a true opinion, then the forum is useless. #5444746

Congrats Cathy, bet this goes even farther! As for Mr. B, he has 2 or 3 EP's so I don't think his opinion to be a critic has much worth!
Guess his mom never told him if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything!
I don't think I would have told anybody I was a graphic designer, his photography isn't outstanding!
Uhhh, Mr. B., that was uncalled for!
