I am sorry, but I am a bit disgusted that this photo is a finalist when the Photoshop job is so bad. The dark blue square around the cloud should be more of a lesson of how NOT to do something in Photoshop rather than a photo finalist in a PHOTO competition. Sorry I am so grumpy, but that is the way I feel. I know people may hate me for my comments, but geez this is bad for so many people that try to create beautiful photos without much help of Photoshop. #3287471

TO GREG:
Hi Greg! Don’t be sorry! I’m wondering my self why this one was chosen, as I uploaded another version without the dark blue square. And as I know, there is a better version; I’m not embarrassed, but very proud, of this POTD!! :-) #3287547
Kathy Shogren September 09, 2006
Evy, this image shows your creativity once again. Such a fun choice of elements. Mr. Owens, if you are grouchy as you say, next time when you wish to lash out at someone's work I would advise you to compare your portfolio to theirs. I enjoyed seeing your two images. Also, it is my rule of critique that if I want to give a criticism, I must also give the antecdote. I failed to see your advice on how to correct this small glitch in Evy's image. #3287604Greg L. Owen September 09, 2006
Kathy: I hope I spelled your name correctly. Maybe if you are going to respond to someone, you should at least consider spelling their name right? Food for thought. Evy has put together some really nice photos along with some good and fun montages together. This one included actually, even though it needs some photoshop improvement. My disgust is more with the competition I guess. This site is BetterPHOTO so I would like to think the competition is for photographers and their photos rather than digital artwork and montages...so when a poorly Photoshoped Montage makes it as a finalist in a PHOTO competition it tends to irk me a bit. Sorry to ruffle feathers. #3287736Diana L. Ralph September 09, 2006
I love this image, Evy! And I guess I didn't notice the blue square around the cloud... you just need to feather your selection next time so it blends better, and select your color from the square of blue so that your sky color matches. I suspect that the judges, having so many images to look through, probably didn't notice the square either - they were so caught up in the image itself and the perspective and rich colors and awesome composition, etc., etc., etc.,! I do think that photos manipulated in the PS "darkroom" process are no different than what Ansel Adams did when he manipulated his zones in his darkroom processes. Photography is a creative art IN the camera and IN the darkroom... whether it's a chemical darkroom or a digital darkroom. It's all part of the process of creating the image that the eye sees! #3287802

Great photo, colors and composition.I don't want to preach, but I've seen several POTD's that have simple problems, so people, check, check and check again ! (change your brightness/contrast settings) #3287867

Hi Evy! Congratulations on your wonderful and colorful fun image! #3288293Diana L. Ralph September 09, 2006
I would agree with you, Bill that the judges aren't supposed to get "so caught up...", and wasn't making excuses for them, but the fact remains there are SO MANY images to go through, I often wonder if they are all getting looked at properly to begin with and I often wonder if we shouldn't be more limited as the number of images we can enter into the contest. It HAS to be cumbersome to judge so many!!!! Are they being judged properly... obviously this one is an example of maybe not... but again, Evy - I LOVE this images and the idea behind it - VERY creative... I just think this is a perfect example of growing pains for BP and the fact that something needs to be done. #3288757Mary K. Robison September 09, 2006
Evy ~Kenneth Mucke September 09, 2006
I do understand Gregs frustration...Evy..I love the idea behing this image and the colors are very robust and the concept is great...it is just that if there are over 26,000 photos to be judged, one would think that only the best of the best make it in as finalists...Having said that I have seen FAR worse than this one make it as a finalist...I have seen very simple snpshots make it in as a finalist...shots with no artistic or creativity quality at all. Even 2 of my finalists that made it in a few months ago, should never have made it in...I know what images I present are good and which ones are not...and 2 were not even good quality images. I agree with Diana...the system of judging really needs to change...to have to view over 26,000 images is just too overwhelming to be able to do a good job of judging...I think they rush through some of the images and do not or can not take the time to really look at each image thoroughly....So I think that Gregs frustration is actually more with the judges than with you Evy...after all it is not your fault that they gave you a finalist or POTD.... #3289479

Evy...I just want to say again...Many Congratulations on such a neat photo. Remember Evy you can't please all the people all the time. Every time I look at your gallery I am truly amazed at the talent you have for snapping your pictures at just the right moment to catch a picture that truly leaves most of us in amazement! You have a wonderful eye and I wish I could capture the things you see...but obviously I don't. We each have our own style. Your do a great job kido..you can be sure of that. Sometime I use several programs to capture the kind of effect that makes me happy. It may not be what others like...but it make me feel good about what I do and that's what counts. Please don't be dishearted with any negative remarks...remember that we are here to learn from one another and we are here to have fun and that is what it is all about. Betterphoto has given us the opportunity to express ourselves in our art...our photography...our love for what we do..the things we see around us...the special events that that come into our lives that have brought us happiness and even sadness. I love your pictures and have learned from you and look at your pictures often and hope to continue to do so. I appreciate you more than you will ever know! Sincerely, allie :) #3304515
