04/22/06 Donghu Park, Jiangmen, China. First ventures into manual focus. Have had issues with my first DSLR and glasses and, afraid to trust my eyes, always relied on automatic focus. But was so enchanted with a telephoto lens I was trying out for macro, and the effects it gave in focusing, I ventured off the beaten track--and from now on, it's manual focus for me!

Susan, I was just cruising through your gallery and am amazed at the beautiful macros you are getting...including this. Can you tell me what kind of lens you primarilay use for these? And congratulations on "manual"...I've just gone to this with my 100 macro lens (canon)! #4301164

Thanks for answering back, Susan(though why you would at 3 AM is beyond me!...it probably is again!!)...I want the 100-400 lens...I'm saving up for it..it's good to know you can get such lovely shots with it. Canon's 100mm macro is one of the first grown-up lenses I got when I got the 30D camera. The DOF can be a problem with the macro, and I'm afraid I'll have to invest in an appropriate flash to go with it to get enough light for the DOF neccessary. But you have beautiful stuff, anyway!! #4305787Sign up for an interactive online photography course to get critiques on your photos.
