Dennis, Fabulous shot and perfect exposure !! Tell me : 1) for this shot did you take the reading after the filter was inserted or before and 2) did you expose the sky or the foreground ? do you remember the final exposure reading. For me it will be a dream to take a photo even close to this and very soon I am going to a coastal area in monsoon time, your inputs may help me.

Ujjwal, I always meter a midtone area in the foreground first. Since the sand was just a little lighter than midtone, I think I added 1/2 stop to the meter reading. I then metered the sky (the darker part of the clouds) to find the difference in exposure. I found that the 2 stop grad ND filter was enough to bring the difference within a range where the sensor can handle it. You generally don't want to have more than a two stop difference between sky and foreground. I set the camera to "M" mode (totally manual) and used the meter readings from the foreground, inserted the filter and took the shot. You must set the camera to "M" mode to prevent the settings from changing when you press the shutter. The aperture was f22. I forgot the resulting shutter speed. It was probably about 1/4 second.
