Photography Question

What Mount/ Adaptor do I need?

Hi there,
I recently came into possession of a Canon FTB. While on EBay (I know- groan) I came across a lens by Soligor (300mm) that was to work on my camera type. As it turns out, it does not and the local camera store cannot even identify the mount that is on there. After contacting the seller they told me they used the lens on their Canon Pellix. Went on the Canon museum site and found out that the FTB is a FD mount while the Pellix is a FL mount. Is there something that I can purchase will make it cross over to the FTB?
Thanks,
Carol

If the lens was used on a Pellix, it should fit the FTb with no problem at all. The only difference between FL and FD lenses is that you meter FD lenses with the aperture wide open. You can use nearly all FL lenses by pushing the lever on your FTb toward the lens with the right hand, and line up the needle in the light meter with the tiny square on the right edge of the viewfinder. If this lens doesn't even go onto the camera, it's not an FL, either. If the Soligor is a T-mount, you can buy an inexpensive adapter on auction sites to use the lens with stop down metering on your FTb. Good choice of a camera, BTW.

FL lenses can be used on later model FD cameras. Instead of twisting the entire lens on to lock it in place the FL lens has a locking ring that is turned to secure the lens in the mount.

The FL lenses do not allow open aperture metering, you need to do "stop down metering."

If this is not an FL or FD mount, what you may need is a T4 adaptor, very cheap and plentiful. See http://www.dougnelsonphoto.com/-/dougnelsonphoto/article.php?ID=29
for my picks in FD lenses. There's really no need to chase aftermarket stuff, except, perhaps in the case of a 300mm.

Thank you both so much for your help. I will check out your suggestions tomorrow when the stores are open and keep my fingers crossed. The lens itself definately does not fit the camera. The end fits over mine with room to spare. . .I am just getting into this so any advice is certainly welcome :)
Thanks very much!
Carol
