Subject limited categories I have a question about the upcoming February Techniques subtopic: "Your Best before and after Improvement" How are we supposed to present this. The only way we can present so that the judge can see and evaluate together is as a diptych (side by side or one over the other). That could be fun, but historically BP has not favored diptychs or triptychs, so I just want to be sure. We can't upload them so that they display next to one another in recent entries even if we upload them back to back on consecutive days or move them around so they are together in our galleries. Besides, given the vertical collage gallery display, that wouldn't be very effective, anyway. My other comment is on the idea of limiting or narrowing a few categories each month. I am not against the idea . . . unless it happens over and over and over again in the same category. That's what has been happening, especially in People. We have now had limited sub-topics in People for 7 of the last 8 months: July - Father; Aug - Joy; Sept - Faces with Character; October - Masks; Nov - OPEN; Dec - Happy Photographers; Jan - Kids and Grandkids; Feb - Best Friends. And this at a time when opportunities for getting out and taking pictures of people are extremely rare for most of us. Give us a break, please, Jim. IMO no category should be limited in consecutive months, and some of them (Animals and People come to mind immediately) have really been overworked this past year.

I had the same question as Nikki. With staying home I am spending more time reworking older images with new filters and techniques I have been experimenting with. In the good old days we used to be able to post a before photo in the comment section before the "New and Improved" BP happened... I realize with formatting things so we can use our cell phones probably makes that idea difficult... This is really the only category I have interest in this month, so would love an answer :-) Happy February!

Hi Nikki, Ann and Jill, Thanks so much for your comments and feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to communicate, as #1 I want BetterPhoto to become better all the time. I answered some of the issues here in this thread on the topic of specific themes and the Before and After photographs. We try to alternate but I can see what you mean about People and sometimes Animals. After the 25th Anniversary celebration, we will take an entire month off (no specific categories for one month) and then I will be sure to give People and Animals more flexibility in the future. I may have misunderstood, but I thought we were going to have a month with no subject limited categories and especially not in People or Animals where we've had a surfeit of such for a year now. But the March categories include limited subjects in both categories. March - Kindness and Support; Community So of the last 24 times (year) we've been able to enter in People or Animals, 16 of those times have been restricted (67%). I am NOT yet out around people - haven't been for a year. I'm sure all these feel-good sub-topics are intended to make us do just that . . . feel good. But all I'm feeling is discouraged.
