Protecting equipment in heat. I live in Florida and I would like to have my camera handy in the car but the summer heat is pretty bad. How would you suggest I protect my equipment (in the trunk of my car)from the Florida heat? I've thought of putting it in a cooler but should I put a cool-pak in there with the equipment or just leave the cooler empty and count on it's insulation to keep the equipment safe? Any good ideas?? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Paula, I live in SW Fl. Ft. Myers. This is the hottest place on earth in the summer. I never never leave my equip in the car. I take it in with me when I have to stop in a place for over 15 minutes. If I go on a shoot, its a shoot, no errands. for the 10-15 minutes when I do have to leave it, the cooler is a good idea.

Your camera manual should state maximum temperature for storing. I would think that a closed car on a summer day would exceed that parameter. A cooler gel-pack is a good idea as long as it's not so cool that condensation will occur when you pull it out. To be safe, I'd just keep the camera inside the house when not in use.

Thank you Mary and Bob for taking the time to respond to my question. Sounds like the best thing for me to do is just decide to either take my camera with me and carry it whether or not I use it or just leave it home safe.
