SB900 Flash

I have a Nikon D80 and SB900 Flash with a sync cord. This weekend I attempted to use the flash off camera. I set the SB900 as the master flash, channel 1 group A in camera and on the flash. The flash would not fire with the sync cord or remotely. I also did not use the onboard camera flash. Can anyone offer any help??

Hmmm.. no idea, to be honest.

When you say sync cord, do you mean the cable that runs from the camera's hot shoe to the flash unit?

That is the ideal accessory if you are not using Wirelss Off Camera flash.

That should certainly cause the flash to fire every time, unless its batteries are weak.

Thanks for the response Peter that is exactly what I have and tried to use. Batteries were fully charged.

Well, Kathy, then that is strange. It always works with any Nikon camera that I test.

I wonder if the cable is defective.

But your camera also supports Wireless off-camera TTL flash; a burst of light the built-in flash will trigger the remote SB900.

I tried that also and it did not work. I had the flash at a 45 degree angle about three or four feet from the camera so as not to have it to close. Needless to say I am very perplexed that I could not get it to work. I will try again as soon as I have some extra time. Thank you Peter.

Are you sure the flash unit is not defective?

Does it work fine when you put it into the camera's hot shoe?

I have used the flash several times on the hot shoe and it works fine. Maybe the cord is defective but I don't have another flash to try it out on. I won't work remotely either. Maybe I should get a new camera (lol)!!
