SD card slot won't accept card :( Help! When trying to insert my memory card in my Nikon D80, it simply pops back out -- Won't click in place. This followed a few month period of on-again/off-again issues with the slot (card wouldn't pop out easily). Does anyone have an idea of what causes this, or a solution? Thanks, in advance. ~Lisa

Thanks Gregory. (Am I to assume that bent pins cannot simply be "unbent"?) Bummer. Just visited the local camera shop. Clerk was unsure of the problem, but told me that it would cost between $300-400 to send it back to Nikon; and a wait of 4-6 weeks... Not sure if a new camera is on my horizon... Wish I had a simple solution. ~♥~Lisa

If that is actually your problem, I think somebody makes a tool that you can use to unbend the pins. But I might be mistaking that for a tool that's made for the pin in the male connection of a sync cord. But, the problem with unbending those pins is, really tiny for one, plus you never get them actually straight again and you weaken them at the joint that they're bent at. Try looking down in the slot and see if you can see if they're bent or not.

Gregory, for diagnostics' sake, does it help to know that the camera acknowleges the memory card when it is manually pushed into the slot and held there? The spring action just pushes the card back out when pressure is removed from the card. Would that happen with bent pins? Thanks a bunch for your help. ~♥~Lisa

Actually it does. Possible that the detent that keeps the card in there is worn, loose, broken... Also possible that you have maybe one or a few bent pins, with enough contact so that the card connects with the camera, but the card doesn't quite connect well enough to make it set in the slot. Also just thought that maybe the card is kept in by friction, and it's just worn down. Does the camera work with the card if you hold it down and close the door?

Thanks a bunch, Gregory, for your time and attention. If I simply close the door with the memory card in there, it doesn't push the card deep enough to function. I discovered today, though, that with a little cardboard placed between the door and the card, the card pushes in deep enough with the door closed, and the camera works. But I am concerned that, if this is actully an unstable connection, could I do further damage to the camera?

Anythings possible since the fact that it's not working as intended means it's not going to get better. I mean, it may get worse not from the cardboard, but just that what ever is wrong or worn out will get more worn out just from the same repeated use that made it get worn out without the cardboard. If it's loose just in not staying down in the slot, and not loose in lateral movement in the slot, I bet you could keep using it just as long as you have before the problem came up.

Funny thing, before discovering my cardboard-fix, I ordered a Nikon 300s. Looks like I've got a new toy, and the D-80 will be my back-up. Thanks, Gregory, for all your help. So very appreciated! Blessings, Lisa♥
