Photography Question

Telephoto lense (55-250mm)

First: what a great website.

I'm a new, amateur photographer that wants to learn everything about photography. I also want to every aspect my image captures with my new Rebel XTI (Cannon).

Question: I bought the camera with a wide angle lense and a telephoto lense. I have noticed with the TELEPHOTO 950mm-250mm) lense when fully extended, a rattling sound can be heard when I tilt the camera. It's a very quiet sound. The photos with the lense are fine and the rattling sound (like something is loose within the lense) is not heard when the lense is fully contracted. I know its probably some simple explanation that I don't know because I'm learning but can anyone tell me what the sound is? Is it a defect? THANK YOU!

  p. 162: "The camera makes a noise when it is shaken. The built-in flash's pop-up mechanism shakes slightly. This is normal."

Also, in the area of the pentamirror is a gravity activated sensor that senses whether the camer is in normal landscape, or turned to portrait orientation. This sounds like a tiny ball bearing rattling in the camera.

Lastly, the 55-250 has an extending barrel that will wobble very slightly when zoomed out. This too is normal.

Thanks for you're reply. I took the lense off the camera to make sure the sound was not from within the housing. I heard no rattle. (which I would have if the problem was in the area of the "Pentamirror"?)

Since the problem was with the TELEPHOTO lense, you're last comment seems to be the answer to the problem. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I appreciate the quick response. Grant
