macro shooting with a teleconverter

I have a tamron 90mm f2.8 macro lens that is all manual focus/ aperature, etc. (it is an adaptall lens) I am trying to use it with a tamron 2X teleconverter on a canon 350D.
when I shoot the pic I get an error 01 code which translates into.. the camera and lens are not communicating well... even when the camera is in manual mode I get this response... am I missing something to make this work or am I just out of luck? PLEASE HELP.... :)

Because the TC has electronic contacts, the camera expects to communicate with a lens attached on the other side. Because the manual lens on the other side doesn't communicate, the error results. The solution is to cover the camera-side electronic contacts of the TC with a narrow piece of tape or paper.
