Photography Question

studio lighting

I recently purchased studio lighting from ebay. I got everything put together and tried it out for the first time. I just guessed on the placement of the lights and when I checked out my photos, there was a pretty harsh shadow. I moved things around but got the same result. So my question is: Where do I aim the lights to produce nice photos without the shadows?

  Hi Ruby,
You might also want to check out this article, www.betterphoto.com/article.php?id=129. Placement is only part of the problem. It also helps to use a larger light source; if you do have shadows they will be soft and subtle. I have a few other articles here at BetterPhoto, and some on the magazine page of my site: www.siskinphoto.com. Practice is important! Thanks, John Siskin
