Presentation of Photographs
I am working on a presentation for an independent study course. Mostly, this will be for my portfolio. I need to know whether I should mount my pictures and on black or white? I am having a horrible time with this.

Michelle, Get with one matte of each color and try looking at a few of them. I try to use a darker matte for framing as it doesn't distract as much from the print (makes it stand out more). That said, there are some for which the reverse works, especially to contrast night photographs filled with large quantities of very deep shadow. -- John

Do you suggest that I use all black or all white for my presentation? I know for my portfolio it probably won't matter, but for the presentation I would think it should probably be the same.

I think consistency is the most important thing. I use white mattes almost exlusively. I think if you look in most galleries you will find white is the predominant choice.

Thank you so much, that is what I was looking for. I don't have much input at home from photographers. :)
