Printing High Quality Digital Photos
I have had no success in getting very high quality photos printed from home using my Epson Color Stylus 640 printer, Epson glossy photo quality 4x6 paper, and Photoshop 5.0. I have managed to get wonderful quality of the same photo sent to Yahoo/Shutterfly and having them sent to my home. Is home printing of photos at the point where the quality rivals that of commercial printing outfits? I suspect that printer devices under at least $750 (approx) in no way rival prints made professionally by a printing service. I'd be grateful if you have any suggestions or comments on this. Your site is very helpful.

I own an Epson Stylus Photo 1270, which uses 6 inks instead of 4, plus has a drop size of 4 picoliters (that's really small), and I've gotten great prints out of it. If you use Epson's premium glossy photo paper, it will definitely rival the quality of a pro service. Plus, they're using archival inks now, so the prints supposedly last up to 25 years. The only problem is getting an input with a high enough resolution to match the printer. From what I understand, however, that there are lots of pros using this printer, and a friend of mine even said that the Nikon school uses Epson 1270s for all their examples.
