Lorri, I'm not sure how long you've been gone from EP. Several years ago BP was pretty consistent in handing out EPs within a few days after the contest day. But over the last few months, they've gone several weeks without awarding any EPs, and then in a 2-3 day period they catch up and do about 10-15 days. Last month, Jim M said that BP was working hard to award EPs faster, including the Staff Favs and Finalists/Winners. And BP has already gone thru all days in Feb. And recently, folks have reported more EPs in Feb so it looks like they're taking a 2nd run thru the images. Long story short...they are getting to EPs faster now (at least for Feb and initially, for March). As for whether there are fewer EPs. There are far fewer contest entries now as compared to a few years ago, so the number of EPs are lower as well. And the EP rate fluctuates. I've gone thru a sampling of photos to see which ones got an EP and which ones didn't. Several years ago, I remember seeing months when the rate was 80% (which means virtually all contest entries got an EP), to as low as 25% (one in four got an EP). I checked the EP rate for March 1st, from Midnight to 12PM (12 hour period), and the rate was 38% (42 EPs out of 110 entered). That's lower than normal, although maybe 40% is the new norm?

I wonder if, although the CA category changes don't go into effect until the April entries, entering anything else under the CA category is already a no-go. So now do I re-enter my skipped entry under a different category in the future or just assume that the Judges are right about my photography skills?

Hey Kathy, I like it. But most importantly, do you like it? Don't let the omission (or inclusion) of an EP be the barometer for whether a photo is good or bad. We've all seen resubmitted photos that didn't have an EP initially, go all the way to 1st place and Grand Prize. It's certainly not applicable for the new Man-made category. But People would be an option. And I'm going off memory, but I think "Elements" also accounts for abstracts. And maybe this is an abstract...would be curious what others thought too.
