Do I Need A Release?
I have a picture of a construction worker which is interesting - do I need a release from him if it gets published? Before I enter it into a contest? And where can I get this release? Thanks.

What are you planning on using the photo for? If you are only publishing it in an editorial publication (newspaper etc.) then you need no release. If you are using it commercially (to make money) such as an advertisement or you are selling the image itself then you need a release. There are books of legal forms for photographers available at Barnes & Noble.

My personal opinion is to always get the release, just in case. The person could become a celebrity one day and you could be the one to show that you knew of their star power all along. Your attorney will appreciate the fact you had the business forethought to get a release.
