Picture Changing Hue/Temperature When Uploading Is anyone seeing what appears to be a hue or temperature change (i.e. warming) of your original picture after uploading it to your gallery?

Ed, it happens to my submissions once in awhile. Just couple of days ago I enteted a very complicated ‘Metal and silk’ image and on the BP website it looked much more reddish than I could tolerate. So I deleted that entry, went back to my JPEG image on Photoshop, chose Curves and slightly increased the curve in the Green Channel. Of course, it did not look flattering on JPEG on PS but after submission it looked perfect on the website. This is one of the ways I know how to change the color cast – increasing or decreasing the Red, Green or Blue Channels. Hope it helps.

Never had this happen before but over the last few days, I too am seeing a color shift when I upload, Ed. My last few photos looked "muddy" with a loss of contrast. In trying to determine if the problem was on my end or BP's, I uploaded the same photos to another app and did not experience any color shift or loss of contrast. Attempted uploading a photo this morning but then deleted because the color shift was still very apparent on my photo.

Thank you both. Now I know I haven't had a change in my color perception. Natasha, I'm pretty much seeing what you're seeing and have been trying to correct for that. Your suggestion will certainly help. Val, I'll keep an eye out for the "muddiness" and loss of contrast you mentioned. Again, thank you both!!

Thanks, Ed for bringing up this problem and thanks, Natasha, for your input on a fix. Looking forward to trying it out. Good luck, Ed - hope it works for you, too! (This is the very best part of BP - members working together with suggestions to help each other out. Thanks guys!)

Use the export function in Photoshop or Lightroom, saving the file as .png. For whatever reason, this works to keep everything intact as you have developed.

Just had the same issue for the first time. What finally worked for me was upping the saturation a little and adding a touch of brightness. Thanks for the helpful posts. I never would have thought to tweak it without you guys!

Ed, I am going to repeat myself (kind of). Several days ago I entered an image and on the BP website it looked much more reddish than I could tolerate. So I deleted that entry, went back to my JPEG image on Photoshop, chose Curves and slightly increased the curve in the Green Channel (green is a complimentary color to red). Of course, it did not look flattering on JPEG on PS but after submission it looked perfect on the website. This is one of the ways to change the red color cast – INCREASING the Curve of the Green Channel OR DECREASING the Curve of the Red Channel. It has to work. Actually I worked on your image (Screen shot) DECREASING the Curve of the Red Channel. It worked well.

My recent entries have a pinkish cast that is unfortunate, too. I am not going to mess with them on upload. They've been fine before, they are fine elsewhere. I'm afraid if I "fix" them to look fine right now, they will look awful once Jim fixes whatever is wrong.

I agree with Nikkie, Our photos should retain their original properties without having to guess how they will look online. I just deleted an image twice because on Better Photo it appears to be over processed and sharpened too much. The photo looks fine on my computer, and I selected the 'No Sharpening' option but on the website it looks terribly over sharpened. The same photo looks great on my other web page.

I followed Eds test and uploaded a black and white image. I had three windows open so I could compare the original image, the BetterPhoto image and the image on another website. On the other website my picture looked exactly the same as my original photo. Color on the BP image was way off and extra sharpening had been applied. And, most distressing, rather then maintaining portion; the photo itself was stretched and distorted as I resized the window.

Irene, looks like you got Jim's attention with you sharpness situation. What ever he did to resolve that problem appears to have solve my reddish hue challenge. Thanks Irene and Jim!!

Glad your pinkish cast problem was solved, Ed . . . at least temporarily. But I think it's back. I uploaded a black and white photo today and it's definitely pink. Someone else had put a horse in a few minutes earlier that I'm sure is supposed to be bw, too - pink. I'm leaving mine up and not messing with it - I don't have time for special processing just to upload here. But the problem is real.

I just tried to enter 3 different photos and each had a very pink hue to them. This has never happened to me before and I thought I was doing something wrong until I saw this post. I deleted each one because they look terrible. I hope the problem gets fixed quickly!

Support told me to use Lightroom but I don't use that software. I tried changing my files to .png and that didn't work for me and I tried adjusting my image in curves either increasing the green channel or decreasing the red channel and I got a somewhat better result although I don't want to continue having to special process images for this website indefinitely. Hopefully the problem will get fixed.

You all know how I like black and white. The problem with the hue greatly affects black and white entries. Unfortunately this problem is occurring on BP's side and I feel that altering my final interpretation of my photo greatly diminishes my chosen final image. I am in hopes of two things: that the problem well soon be corrected, and that the judging of the photos will not be hindered. Who knows how changing hue before uploading will alter what the judges see in the photos. I like what I see when I finish working on an image and I have taken measures to insure that my screen displays the desired color, chroma, and hue. I will leave it at that.

I've just noticed this problem too. My black and white lemur now has a warmish tinge to it, not black and white now, it's very noticeable.

Errick and Ann, when uploading your photos, on the same page that you check the "sharpening" amount, uncheck "warming". It is checked as default and you have to do it for every upload. Does that take away the warm/pinkish tint?

Thanks Michelle, somebody else pointed that out to me and it seems to have sorted the issue. I hadn't even noticed that warming check box when I had been uploading.
