picture clarity I have a Canon Digital Rebel with a Canon 28-135mm IS USM lens. I recently took some outside portrait shots for some Christmas Card Photos. When I uploaded the pics to the computer for viewing I noticed that the picture didn't look as "clear" as other photos I have taken with the camera. Out of about 85 shots taken only about 10 were "clear". They were all usable pictures but just not the quality that I have seen come from this camera. I am just beginnig to take this hobby to the next level, so I still have a lot to learn. I really don't think it is a focus problem that I am having because the photos are usable pictures, they are just not as clear as the could be. Can anyone give me some suggestions on things to check or settings I should change or if filters would make a make a difference with this problem? Thanks!

There are lots of different things that can affect the perceived clarity of your pictures. Upload examples of pictures from the shoot that look clear and others that don't, and we might be able to suggest what went wrong. Chris Vedros

I know my camera can take sharper clear pictures than the ones above because I have seen them. The 2nd photo with the people, I feel their faces should have been more clear and the entire picture should be sharper.

Possibly you accidently turned off the IS feature? That has happened to me - easy to do.

I've accidently gone into manual focus mode, versus auto focus...I think it's focused, but it's really not..

What aperture did you use for the second picture? It may just be that your Depth of Field in the picture was not large enough to get the subjects in sharp focus. Your actual focus point may have been behind the people. Chris Vedros
