which lens is better Sigma or Tamron? Hi all I'm looking for help in deciding which lens to get the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 or the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8. The lens will be used mostly for equine sports events on a Canon 30D camera.

There are many web sites that can give you reviews of both lenses to help you choose. Try www.dpreview.com as a starting place.

According to PhotoZone Sigma no longer makes the lens. That isn't to say that there are not 5000 of them NIB in stores across the country including possibly B&H and Adorama. The Tammy won out anyway, buy a small margin.

Hi Sharon, Canon makes 5 different 70-200mm L lenses. Starting with the f/4L (non-IS) is about $650, the f/4L IS is about $1200, the f/2.8L (non-IS) is about $1400 and then the f/2.8L IS older version is $1800 and the new II version is $2400. I had the f/4 (non-IS) version and it is a very fine lens. I did eventually sell it to get the f/2.8L IS because I do a lot of low light (concert & event) photography. BTW - the f/4 lenses are smaller & lighter than the f/2.8's which I know some people prefer the lighter weight. my .02, Carlton
