Pro: F4 is available at all focal lengths. With the 7D crop factor it will give an effective 168mm at full zoom. It is an ideal walk-around lens for a Full Frame camera. Con: With the 7D the crop factor at the wide end is effectively only 38.4mm. This isn't wide enough for city photography unless you are only photographing people IMO. And definitely not good for the European narrow streets, where all the good and different shots are found. On my 40D I use a 17-85mm as a walk around lens. The 15-85 is ranked even better. For my 5D I want the 24-105mm for general photography.

Hi Gagan, I use that lens and it has become my favorite "all around" lens. In places where a tripod is not allowed like a butterfly garden I visit, it is a wonderful zoom lens, light enough to hold w/o too much camera shake. I use it on a 30D dinasor and still love it. I am also thinking of buying a 7D. Good Shooting, Mary

I also use that lens as my everyday shooter. I went to Venice in Feb. and only used the 24-105 and the 10-22 for all my images. I also have the 7D. Listen to Lynn she gave me very good advice on what lens to take to Venice and she was very right. Memoriee

I also use the 24-105mm as my primary lens and agree with the other folks who've chimed in.

I was using the 24-105 f4.0 (23.6 ounces) as my walk around lens on my 40D but found it to be not quite wide enough for many shots. When I bought my 40D, I picked up the EFS 17-55 f2.8 (22.8 ounces). It's one of those "S" lenses that is considered to be "L" quality in many ways. I love the extra wide angle it gives me, and I have not missed the longer range one bit. Of course it depends on what you shoot, but I have the 70-200 f4 for longer range shots. I found a reburbished one at Adorama, and got it for around $1,000. If you don't plan to upgrade to a full-frame camera soon, I recommend that you consider the 17-55.

Oops. In my previous post, I meant to say, "When I bought my 7D." To clarify, I'm using the EF-S 17-55 with a 7D and loving the combo.
