FD Lenses to Digital Rebel?

Hi there,

I am hoping someone can help me. I started out with a Canon FTB setup with a number of lenses and then acquired a Canon Digital Rebel. What I am wondering is if anyone knows of an adaptor to make FD lenses work on an EF mount. . .I realize the lenses won't be AF that way but would like to try them anyway.

Thanks!
Carol

There are some FD to EOS adaptors that you can look for, but unless you have a fabulous FD 300 f/2.8L or the FD macro bellows, are hardly worth the bother. Besides manual focus, the adaptors have no way to actuate the aperture lever no the FD lens, so you have to manually set aperture and use stop-down metering. Because the lens flange to film plane distance is longer in the EOS cameras, the adaptor requires an optical element(s) to maintain infinity focus. This means that the adaptor acts as a x1.26 teleconverter (with 2/3 stop light loss), and is more expensive than a simply mechanical adaptor.

For more information on Canon's own adaptors (long out of production), see http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/fdeos.htm. There is a current production adaptor available (see link to B&H Photo.
