Slide scanning vs. making optic prints
Hi, me again...Can prints be made from color slides without digitally scanning them into a pC and printing them on a printer ? I mean, like using negatives and an enlarger to make prints, can slides be used in the same way to make optical prints? (Meaning shining light through the slide onto paper )? Thanks Pieter Roelofse Seattle

Before the digital age, prints were made by projecting the slide with a balanced light source, then re-photographing the image with a larger format print film...thus creating a negative. The resulting negative was then printed in the normal fashion. I'm sure many pro labs, (and others) still offer this service. I have had experience with prints up to 20" X 30" which were produced using this process, but I would not recommend this practice unless a fine-grain, tack sharp original transparency is used. Typically, these second generation prints aren't as sharp and clear as the original slide.
