Colors in my photos look dull and muddy

I got a Canon Rebel TI with Canon 28-105mm F4.0-5.6 USM AF Lens. I took a lot of photos but the colors in my photos look dull and muddy. Is there anyone in here knows what is wrong with my equipments or any advise? PLEASE HELP!!!. Thanks a lot.

Look at your negatives and compare them with negatives from photos that look good. Are your problem negs thin and sickly looking, without detail in the highlights? "Dull and muddy" is exactly what the prints look like. If so, this comes from underexposure. If it's happening with all your shots, borrow or rent another EOS body and shoot some more, to see if your camera is consistently underexposing.

I had a similar problem with a series of shots with very bright skies. Turns out, I allowed the skies to overinfluence my light meter, causing it to freak and close down the aperture too much, hence underexposure. I've been shooting for 35 years, and still get burned by this once in a while. In this situation, use the partial metering option, keeping it on your subject.

If your original negs look OK, then the problem could be the processing. Take the negs somewhere else and have them printed.

Maybe another Rebel TI user could shed some light on exposure problems.
