Why are my photos grainy? I just got back 2 rolls of film from A&I today. One roll looks fine and the other roll looks grainy. I used the same type of film, same lens, off-camera flash, same time and same place as the ones on the other roll. Would old film look grainy. The beginning pics on roll #1 were taken about 5 months earlier. They are not grainy. Maybe the film went bad before I used it again. The beginning pics on roll #1 were taken outside on a sunny day. The last half of the pics on roll #1 were taken inside at night with flash. does it matter if you take pictures from several different lighting conditions on one roll?

The ISO and shutter speed are the two main factors in grain. If you use a high ISO speed film, it will be more grainy. In digital cameras, maybe film cameras too, long shutter exposures (like at night) also cause noise. I can't think of anything else besides that. Ariel
