Damaged Memory Card I am a member of Better Photo but it is a friend who is visiting me writing the following question. They won't be leaving for a few days, so I felt that sending her question to this site would be the best way to find out if there is any help for her to retrieve the lost pictures. Thanks for any and all help! While viewing pics on the computer from my memory card thru my card reader, my son pulled the card out and pushed it back in very quickly ... then when I clicked to view a picture, it said no preview available (or something like that). I put the memory card back into my camera and I get a blue screen on my LCD and a message that says "card error" ... how do I retrieve my pictures ... or can I? I have a Fujifilm S5000 and my card is an Olympus XD 128 mb, my card reader is a compatible XD card reader. All this equipment came with my camera.

Look for some file recovery programs. I don't know any names to give you, so you'll have to ask around.

Thanks for your responses, Del and Gregory. We have also found out that there are possibilities for recovering the pics from the card itself. I don't know if that includes recovering the card but perhaps with one of the methods she will at least get her pics back. Some were from Christmas, and we sure hate to lose them you know. Live and learn. Thanks again.

Ann: The key here is to: 1) Recover the images from the card and save them to a file folder in your computer. Connect the camera to a computer or use an optional card reader. Then, use Recovery software. 2) Use the Format option in your camera to re-format the card. It may work fine again, after that. Note: Do not use any Format option in a computer to format a camera's memory card. You could try the free software that Del recommended earlier. I use software that cost $29 - but, apparently, free software is also available. Cheers! Peter Burian

Thanks Peter my friend has headed home and that is what she's going to try to do although she decided to head for a good camera shop or somewhere like that for some knowledgable help. At least we knew there was the possibility that all was not lost and that helped a lot. So thanks again
