How to keep high quality when re-sizing in PS

This is like my 3rd questions and I really appreciate everyone who replies to them, Thanks.

My next questions when I import my photos to photoshop I initially get this huge pic (1632x 1232). When I re-size it to a thumbnail size, I lose ALL quality! Can somone please help me?

  Hi Kiyaad,

Reszing shrinks the image down to a smaller size. This is done through resampling the image. The resulting smaller image contains less information in it than the original and so it loses quality.

You can think of an image size as a room's size and the image itself as the stuff in a room. If you shrink the size of the room down, you also shrink the amount of stuff you can hold. So the smaller the image size, the less information in the image there is.

What you might want to try is to copy the original file and save it under a different name, then work on that copy. That way, you aren't risking the loss of image data in the original file when you resize the copy.
