I assume you mean you have the standard EF 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 that is sold with the 300D. I would recommend the Canon EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM (I or II). It is faster than most of its competitors (f/4.5 instead of f/5.6), is fairly sharp and has good build quality with non-rotating front element, metal mount, fast/quiet ring-USM with full-time-manual focus, and a focus distance scale. It also shares the same sized filters (58mm) as your other lenses. Note that this is a different and BETTER lens than the cheaper Canon EF 28-105 f/4-5.6 USM.

If you shop used you might find the discontinued but very nice EF 35-135 f/4-5.6 USM which has the same nice features as the 28-105, including 58mm filter size.

Upon further review, I'm not convinced that you really need a lens covering the 55mm-90mm range for "complete coverage," especially if "money is tight." For example, if you want to frame your scene as you would with a 70mm focal length, you can simply use the wide zoom at 55mm and take a step or two closer, or the telezoom at 90mm and take a step or two back.

You'd probably get more use out of a powerful accessory flash, or a tripod.
