Travelling with a digital camera
After reading the latest list of questions, the last one regarding travelling with a digital camera, I wondered how the xray scanners at te airport would affect the digital cards. They can apparently affect or even ruin films so I was curious to know if anyone had problems with their cards?

X-rays have no effect on digital storage media.

I've worked with the xray machines at airports and they won't harm any film under 800ASI. Now metal detectors will mess up your digital if it passes to close to the magnetic field.

Depends on the camera and "digital media" you are using. Basically, if you are using CompactFlash, Smartmedia, Sonymemory stick, SD/XD/MMC memory chips... you are fine. They are not affected by normal scanning xrays or by normal scanning magnetic fields. If you are using Microdrives, then you have the problem of it being a magnetic media. In which case, the scanning wands and sensor systems might corrupt data on the disk if the field comes within close enough proximity. For the most part, digital is safe when going through most checkpoints. Just be sure to keep them away from water, static discharge, and being dropped.
