Are you resizing, Peggy? It's 1024 on the long side now, not 800. I do think it's making a difference.

Hi Nikki No, I'm not resizing ... I had mentioned that in another thread, and Jim said that's fine, no need to resize. I never have resized (I assume the site resizes automatically) and my images have always looked fine; this is the first time I've seen any noticeable softness ...

Couldn't remember who'd said that but I thought if you were resizing to 800 now that the limit is 1024, that could contribute. No other ideas. I do always resize and sharpen for upload, though.

Yes, that would make sense if I had resized to less than 1024, then the site would have to upsize it for display ... But since I'm not resizing, I dunno ...

Peggy, are you using the alternate or platinum uploader? I've always used the alternate. I uploaded one the other day, and the sharpness was absolutely horrible. I deleted it, and uploaded again with the platinum. The sharpness was much better. Not as sharp as it is on my personal site, but much better than the first upload. I do not resize either.

Hi all, I need to clarify what I said in the other thread... There is no absolute need to resize IF you're getting acceptable results... but it WOULD be better to resize first and get the image at 1024 and just as sharpened as you like before uploading, for optimal results. Then you are not relying on the uploader's resizing. For many people, the results look just fine... but for many resizing and then applying just the amount of Unsharp Mask (or whatever you use) to the final image... that WOULD be a good idea. Mine are through the 23rd, too. Just uploaded for today. I was going to try the Platinum uploader just because. I checked for watermark and show in gallery and I have read the rules. I did not check for "use file name for image title". But when I got to the next page, I saw no way to put a new title on my image, so I chickened out and used the alternate uploader. That has always done fine for me, so this is not a real problem, but I'm just wondering at what point you get to put your title in with the Platinum uploader - or do you have to put it on the file before you ever start?

Nikki, when I use the platinum uploader, it works the same way as the alternate uploader (which I was in the habit of using). As soon as the upload is complete, I get the Manage/Enter screen and can input the image title and description. Perhpas there is a temporary glitch?

When you go to the Platinum uploader, you'll see an Edit Description icon appear when you hover in the lower right corner of the image file area (right next to the thumbnail of your photo). You can enter both Title and Description here, separating the two with @@ Hope that helps! :) Jim
