Photography Question

Ken Pang

Does a monopod help when you use a flash?

Just wondering...

I am using a 200mm lens with a flash. The sync speed is going to be locked at 1/200th of a second, but I understand that flashes themselves only last 1/6000th to 1/10,000th of a second.

In which case, I have to ask, does a monopod assist in this situation?

Thanks.

Ken

First of all, does your camera flash sync at 1/200? Next, what sort of light are you shooting in and what are you using the flash for? If you are shooting in fairly bright light and the flash is only fill then you might want the monopod. If it is darker and the flash is your main light then you won't need the monopod. The short flash duration will be enough to overcome camera shake.
