shooting concert photos
i love photography although i'm a beginner. I recently received a photo pass for an indoor concert but I was asked not to use a flash or tripod due to safety reasons for the band. How can I shoot good photographs in such low lighting conditions. my friend told me I should use high speed film. are there any other suggestion? what kind of shutter speed should I use?

How close will you be? What kind of equipment will you have? Do you want color or b&w? If you can't use a tripod then you will need a fast lens. If you will be relatively close a 50mm lens with a max aperture of f1.4-f1.8 will work nicely. If you are not so close then an 85mm f1.2-f1.8 lens would be nice. Basically, you need steady hands and a fast lens.

Can you use a monopod? That might help. If not, brace yourself against a wall for extra stability.
