Florence, Italy - any BP Members?

Hi folks -- anyone out there in BP-land based in Florence, or nearby? I'm heading over for my first trip to Italy, this October. Would love to talk with a 'veteran' Florentian (resident or frequent visitor) -- as well as perhaps meet up while I'm there...

I envy you, my friend. I love, love, love that part of the world. We were only in Tuscany for about 8 days and I did not get to Florence itself, but the villages and areas provided one of the best trips for Denise and I. Enjoy your trip!

I'm very excited for it, even if it may be a rainier time... I've be interested in Florence for many years, and even if we don't venture out to one Tuscan hill town, I'll be thrilled with a week in Florence...! (Though I think we'll do at least a day trip to Fiesole.)

I went to Florence and Tuscany this past May. Florence is difficult to photograph because of all the people that time of the year. On the other hand, Tuscany was a delight. We stayed in San Quirico, a very central location for many iconic shot. You can view some of my shots taken outside Quirico in my gallery here at BP. I loved it there. Lucky you.

May I also recommend looking at Pisa, very close by. The walled city holds more to look at than just the Leaning Tower. The buildings associated with the Tower are amazing, and the buildings in the old town are very photographic too. It wasn't originally on my to do list, but when I did go there, I was very glad I did. :) I couldn't get over the fact that the gutters are made from marble!!

Thank you both! Pisa does interest me (including the infamous tower, but also the strong, graphic look of the neighboring cathedral.)
