2nd Annual BetterPhoto Summit - Q&A

Question   Where will this event be held?
  Answer We will be meeting at the beautiful Marriott Redmond Town Center. Airport shuttles, luxurious guest rooms, and reasonable rates make this location ideal. What's more... you will be conveniently located to both great shops AND great areas for photography!
 
Question   Will you have a group rate available at the hotel?
  Answer Yes! To reach the Marriott reservation center, click here. If you wish to call Marriott, our code is bpbbpba.
 
Question   Will I need to rent a car?
  Answer We recommend it. However, we are arranging a discount on a shuttle service that will take you to and from the airport. Details on this discounted airport shuttle service will be forthcoming.
 
Question   Is there some sort of shuttle from SeaTac Airport?
  Answer Yes, you can use Shuttle Express. You may make your reservations online and you will be given a confirmation number. After you retrieve your luggage in Baggage Claim, go to the booth to check in. Cross sky bridge #3 or #4 to the parking garage,and go to the 3rd floor. Follow the Ground Transportation signs. The Shuttle Express booth is in the center of the 3rd floor, between elevator banks #3 and #4 (next to the airport's ground transportation office). Go to our desk and check in with the Shuttle Express coordinators. Note that it's $28 one way (a special rate), and you can pay online with credit card, or you can pay the driver (cash or CC). Shuttle Express recommends that you book roundtrip, so you don't have to call the reservation center for the return to the airport.
 
Question   Will I be able to get my books signed by my favorite author/instructor?
  Answer Yes, by all means. You may purchase books at the event, or bring your own copies, and have your favorite author autograph them.
 
Question   Any other cool things planned?
  Answer Absolutely! We will also have the Summit Contest. Submit one photo per day after you sign up, and you may win a free trip to the Summit, an online photography course of their choice ($297 value) or a Deluxe BetterPholio™ (one year subscription). As winning images will be shown at a special presentation, you'll also get to showcase your best photos among your peers and professionals at the Summit. Question   What does the price include?
  Answer This modest fee pays for the event - the lectures, the demonstrations, and the fun. It does not include lodging, transportation, meals (except continental breakfast will be provided both days), or other travel- or photography-related expenses.
 
Question   I have taken multiple courses at BetterPhoto. Do I qualify for a discount on the price of admission?

Question   Are lectures presented at the same time, so I have to pick which talks I want to attend?
  Answer While other companies often have a base price and then make you pay more to attend other talks and demonstrations, our Summit features a simple one price fits all model. We give you one streamlined, jam-packed schedule, so you can enjoy every aspect of the event.
 
Question   Is this fee refundable?
  Answer Yes, if you request a refund before August 21st, we will give you a 100% refund. After August 21st, the fee is non-refundable.
 
Question   Will food and beverages be provided?
  Answer We plan to have snacks at the conference, including continental breakfast both days, but not meals. However, there are several excellent restaurants in and around the hotel.
 
Question   Will there be any workshops or photography tours before or after the Summit?
  Answer Yes! For 2 days after the Summit, you can participant in one of two workshops:
  • Kerry Drager and Jim Miotke will give you a photography tour that combines the Best of the Northwest with some digital fun. We will enjoy shooting in all of Jim's favorite locations in and around the great city of Seattle. We are talking classic cityscapes, glowing mountains, gorgeous landmarks... everything you'd except from the Pacific Northwest. We'll base ourselves at the same hotel as the Summit, start early on Monday, September 18th, play with Photoshop and exchange digital imaging tips during the day, and end with a breakfast on Wednesday morning, wrapping things up at 10am. All this for only an additional $348 (not including accommodations, meals, and transportation).

  • Bruce Smith will be providing intense instruction to help students produce fabulous studio fashion shots using studio flash. Learn from a master, how to set up a professional project from start to finish. Select the look required, work with stylists and hair and make up artists. Use the studio space and props to create interesting shapes and poses. This workshop will teach you all you need to know about shooting with professional models.

Question   If I just want to go solo and photograph the area, do you have any tips or suggestions for me?
  Answer Yes, we will provide tips, suggested itineraries and a list of the best places to shoot for those of you who would like to spend some time photographing the area before or after the big event.
