Light weight, practical, manual SLR camera. Gives goos results and easy to carry around. Fastest shutter is 2000...most normal use doesnt need more than that. If you like manual cameras and like to work with Nikon this is the only option in new cameras.

First of all the camera is totally manual, so we can completely play arround & experiment, which is important in photography.
The camera is easy to use, steardy to handle.
We can completely utilise the roll, since forwarding is manual. In Semi automatic once the autoforwarding starts only 36 frames are forwarded.
In some situations autofocus is preffered more over manual, where time for adjustment is critical, like wild life shots(one special movement of animal).

i dont need a digital just yet. it comes out the way i want it to the first time. i just focus a little bit longer to see if the image i have is suitable and if it doesnt fit then it is changed.

I was given this camera as a gift. I am still learning to use it, but I feel I am really getting to know how to take a great picture. The fact that it is fully manual means I have to set up the shot correctly, not cheating. I think it is the best way for a beginner to learn.

I love this manual SLR, because it is simple and sophisticated. My Kodak Z7590 digital compact is simple and does most of the thinking, even in manual mode when it tells users that their shutterspeed is too slow or whatnot, but the Z7590 is limited by its lenses. My D70s is sophisticated enough that with the right lens users can do almost anything, but so many options comes with a cost -- time. Sometimes using the D70s is more like programming a computer than operating a camera. The FM10 is just right. The user does all the work, but the amount of work the user has to do is managable.
Novices can learn basic exposure with Nikon's FM 10. Insert film (the higher the better). Pick a lens (I have the kit 35-70mm and a 70-300mm zoom lens). Select a shutter speed (which ranges from bulb to 1 second to 1/2000 of a second). Adjust aperature. Focus. Press the button halfway. If the red + lights up, the shot is overexposed. Increase shutter speed or shrink aperature. If the red - lights up, the shot is underexposed. Decrease shutter speed or enlarge aperature. If the green dot lights up, then the shot is exposed correct. If the green dots lights up with either a red + or -, then the shot is over- or under-exposed by 1 stop. This simple setup makes the FM10 a great camera to learn about the relationship between ISO film ratings, aperature and shutter speed.
Cost also makes the FM10 great for beginners. This SLR is cheap (less than $200 on EBay), works with a large number of high quality Nikon lenses available secondhand (a 70-300 manual zoom lens is less than $150), and rugged(no worries or expensive repairs). Finally, despite the recent announcement that Nikon plans to discontinue production of film cameras and concentrate on digital cameras, Nikon also plans to keep distributing the FM10 outside of Europe, so this camera has more longevity than other film SLRs.

I love my Nikon FM10 SLR. My parents bought it for me for christmas last year. The only problem I've had with it so far is that the ring around my lens to keep the dust out fell out because it wasn't glued in properly, so I had to reapply it with some super glue. It takes good quality images, and is easy to use.

I love it, but it may not be to everyones taste as it is very low-tech - the only thing that uses a battery is the light meter.
The best thing is definitely the click that it makes and the lack of LCD. On the other hand I personally could do with an automatic focus as I do a lot of children shots.

Best camera for an amateur nature photographer with the budget. Offers complete access to excellent nikon lenses (all old and new except G series) Once one learns more, one can switch to other nikon bodies, total manual with depth of field (crucial for nature) and accurate meter . I have shot slides with it and the exposure was very good if one knows how to use the meter. good resale value.

I am getting older (49 soon to be 50) and my eyes are not quite as quick to manual focus on objects as they were.

What I like of my camera is that its manual and you can control evreything, like your apertures, shutter speed and specially the light wich is the more important ingridient of photography. What I don't like is that, manufactures are not making many of them on this days. I am 100% traditional, not that I disaprove others format, but, you could be more artistic when your are in control of your camera to create magical sceneries and not the camera.I bought this camera two years ago and I am very satified with the result I having so far. I do own another camera; Canon EOS 650 wich its very good too, like I said before I am traditional. I wish that anybody would told me about the beautiful art you can create with a photograph many years before.

I prefer my manual Nikon camera compared to a digital camera. I like the options on a manual camera; from being able to pick what kind of film to use for the perfect shot, to manually setting your camera for that one of a kind that checks your eye; one moment it’s there and the next it’s gone. Manual camera's allow the photographer to rely on there own eye for the focused image and not the rigid, digital camera to do all of the work for you. Manual camera’s might be old fashion compared to all of the new digital camera’s today, but when it comes down to it, knowing your camera and mastering the art of the image is more important to a photographer then easy access imagery.
