The Nikon D70S is a versatile camera. Is able to do all I ask of it. Takes more than acceptable images. Programming is straight forward, and easy to master, even for a dummy like me. The only drawback to me is that it is a little larger and heavier than some other comparable makes.

The D1x for me, is a well balanced, and still an advanced camera. Though I haven't owned it since its release, It still stands up to today's newest prosumer cameras, with their up to date technology. There are drawbacks to this camera, compared to today's pro cameras. One is the fact that the camera has to be sent away for firm-ware upgrades, instead of just downloading it, and installing it through firewire/USB. Also, is it's lower MP sensor. Another would be it's onboard memory size. The D1x can only shoot 9 frames in a row @ RAW size, compared to today's 40 to 50 frames in a row. Simply, compared to present day pro cameras, and some consumer cameras, the D1x has some out of date technology, but still has the functions needed for those quick decisions, and qualities, required by pro photographers.

I have had many problems with this camera. If I had not spent so much money on it I would get rid of it. Also I have a large investment in Nikon lens.

My Canon EOS was my first "real" camera, and the one I prefer, now that I can get the photos on disk. I'm still learning how to use it, but it rarely fails me.

Great camera all around. My only complaint would be the fact that Nikon is yet to make a camera with a full frame CCD. 1.5 is annonying since I use a Nikon F5 occasionally.

My first digital camera : when a dream becomes true... I have bought a D2x today but I keep a great pleasure to use this camera. Sure, when I compare it with its successor, I could easily find some "lacks" or defaults but I keep it on my heart as an "old" accomplice. A affective an close relationship

Unless you are shooting billboards, this camera is all I will ever need. I love how it feels, which to me means a lot. I've shot 1Ds, and prefer the usability of D1x. Of course I have my eyes on the D2x, but until I absoultely need it, Adobe dng has given this camera another good 2 years in my opinion. Interpolated at 15mp the images I get are still hard to beat. Regardless of what others say, it beats the pants off of a D70 or 20D in my opinion due to things like viewfinder, feel, build quality. I wore the shutter out of my D70 after 6 months, and simply wasn't cut out for every day professional use. This camera even at 4 years old can still hold it's own given the photographer understands digital imaging.

I do not have any experience to rate this camera against another. It is easy to use, with all the pro features you would expect from a high end slr. The only downside is the weight of it for extended handheld situations, and the battery size/weight itself.

I moved from conventional film photography with my Nikon N70 to the digital D100 so that I could begin digital photography and photoediting while keeping my Nikon lenses. The D100 has been an excellent camera; its controls very similar to the N70 while offering the digital advantages of viewing histograms to know I have the exposure range I wish, preview images and digitally edit my images with Photoshop 7.0 on my laptop while I travel. I now have complete control of my images from capture to printing. The only disadvantage is that now I travel with a lot more heavy gear to enjoy the benefits of digital photography.

I have been using the D1X for almost one month, after I sold my Nikon D100 and D70 and F100, taking landscape, people, human interests, etc. I am very impressed with the quality of images which I have got, as compared to the ones above. Absolutely I am so happy and really enjoy using this good camera.

I love the Nikon D1X except it is a little heavy if you have a long on location session. Otherwise it is a great camera.

I love it! Just don't know how to use all the functions yet. It's kinda hard to use if you never has a class on digital professional photography. I wouldn't recommended for beginner.

The D1x is a dream camera. It offers wonderful flexibility for a variety of different types of photography. My biggest problem with it is the weight.

Well, I've only owned the Nikon D1X a couple weeks. Wanted to upgrade to a more professional digital outfit, and for the budget I was working within this camera and lenses met my needs. So far I am very pleased, I also purchased the Nikon Capture control software, and am amazed at edits this allows.

My first digital camera was Olympus D-620L and some of my photographs on my web site that is being set up were taken with this camera. I would rate this Olympus camera a 6 which is excellent for the point and shoot (get into the swing of digital photography, the learning phase). From the Olympus D-620 L Camera, I went straight to the Nikon D1X and I love it. I am a totally digital fanatic. I am hooked I love everything about the process. I enjoy the ability to choose my lens, aperture, shutter field and total control. My Nikon is a perfect 10.

I've had this camera for some time now and have always enjoyed and trusted it. I also have a D100, and am waiting to see Nikon's next entry into the pro digital slr market. I was one of the first to own the camera in my area and was on a waiting list to get. I paid the full premium price for the camera but feel though I have received the full value in use. Overall I rate the D1X as a excellent digital slr camera.

I am currently attending a photography school in California and have an endless arsenal of cameras to choose from. Of the selection, I have found the D-1x to be the most versatile and consistent. I have saved a huge amount of money on film and couldn't be happier with it's performance. I can now walk away from a shoot with four or five solid shots rather than four or five rolls of film that need to be processed and eventually edited down to four or five shots anyway. If I find that I don't have enough strobes to crate the effect I want, I can take the same shot with different lighting scenarios and blend them togeather in photoshop to make the perfect image.

Excellent performance with ease of use; operation is almost identical to the 35mm Nikon F5 SLR. This is a big plus for those who are familiar with Nikon equipment. Compatible with Nikon S, D, G, AI-type, and other standard and specialized lenses, the D1x weighs approximately 2.5 lbs and has a good feel. Digital shooting, with 5.3 million pixels of resolution, offers crisp, clear imagery. I am fortunate enough to have received this camera as a gift. Using the D1x has opened a whole new world for me.

I have owned my D1x for two years now and shot over 10,000 pictures with it. I am even more convinced now that I made a very wise purchase. The camera is tremendous! It behaves as fast as a 35mm SLR and is much like an F5. It is built of superior components, such as the same shutter module (rated at 150,000 cycles) and autofocus module used in the F5. This is one tough camera. Plus it has many other features that make the life of a photographer easier.

If you want to read a good review of the D1x, check out the latest one by Thom Hogan on his website – bythom.com. He shows how the D1x measures up well, even against the newest high priced digital SLR’s. One thing I have learned is that resolution is kind of an elusive term, not the greatest measurement of a camera’s worth. I know of pro’s who have made poster sized prints, I mean big!

I have never been more impressed with a camera than I am with the D1x.

This is the newest version of the D1X with the buffer upgrade and newest firmware the color and exposure of this camera is what you see is what you get! filling this buffer is quiet hard to do get one today! the only thing I dislike is if you have sb28 flash uints or some others not rated dx are useless on this camera thus the price for technology with that in mind I still have to give it a 10!!

The D1X is a complex, sturdy and reliable camera--a professional level Nikon product. I have limited experience with Nikon products but it looks and feels very much like a digital version of the F5. It's features are way too numerous to list here. Check out the review at Steve's Digicams or elsewhere. While I find the controls very ergonomic and logical (including the extensive menu screens), it takes a while to learn all the wonderful things this camera can do. The manual is excellent, however, read it once or twice if you get the camera, then keep it around for reference afterwards. On the downside, it's an expensive camera (currently ~$3800 at B&H Photo), not to mention the additional cost of lenses and accessories. It's a 5.5 MP camera, with film being about 8-9 MP resolution (I know I am comparing apples to oranges, but that's what Pop Photo or one of the other major photo rags said recently in one of their articles). On the other hand with minimal tweaking in Photoshop I can produce photos very comparable to 35mm film quality. Under most conditions sharpness will be limited by the user, not the camera. This camera is not as fast in terms of shutter lag or burst rate as a comparable film camera. Battery life is about 300 exposures, less if you are reviewing a lot and/or using AF or VR a lot. It requires a special battery that fits into the base, available only from Nikon for about $100. I recently bought a voltage inverter for ~$30 at the local electronics store, and I can recharge the battery while driving using the cigarette lighter. You will need to purchase Nikon Capture or Bibble software to decode the "raw" files, also another $100. It's also heavy, especially with my 80-400mm Nikkor zoom attached. And as the insides of the camera (including the CCD) are exposed to the outside world every time you change lenses, one must clean the CCD periodically. This problem applies to all digital SLRs, however. With this camera, to keep the reflex mirror locked up for CCD cleaning, you need to purchase an AC adapter, also another $100. And, shooting "raw" (.nef) files, you will change CF cards way too often with anything less than a 512 MB CF card. In conclusion, this is an expensive, professional quality camera, but you get what you pay for! Coupled with good lenses it produces awesome photographs. It tolerates extreme weather better than I do. After 14 months of use I have over 8000 frames on the counterand have had no problems at all. I also own a Nikon 8008S body, but use it only as a backup now. I'm just too hooked on the immediate feedback and convenience of digital photography!

I love everything about my D1X. The only complaint is the dust getting on the CCD and the resulting need to frequently clean it. But all or most digital SLR's have this same problem. Just wish I could afford some more lenses.

I have used Nikon D1X for about a year now. I love every pictures that I have taken Weddings, Landscapes, Portraits. The most part about Nikon D1x that I love the most is RAW files. I can shoot RAW files and I can fix the problems later with the photos that is over expore or under expore. I have never used my F5 no more after I used the Nikon D1X. I don't have to worry any more about over exposure or under exposure. Because I can use Advanced RAW tools on Nikon Caputrue 3.5 to adjust the White Balance. The options in the Advanced RAW palette are used to alter exposure compensation, image sharpening, tone compensation, color mode, and hue adjustment from the settings in effect at the time the photograph was taken. I don't have much thing to say about it. I recommend you to have one in your hand if you have big $. I just love it. I am Sorry for broken English but I hope you do understand. You simply have to hold this camera to truly know what a real camera feels like. Combine it with the Nikon 80 - 400 VR zoom and you'll keep 80% of the 2000 plus pictures you take in a week. You just can't stop shooting. The pictures from wildlife to action almost always come out with perfect exposure and focus. With the D1x the instant you turn it on your ready to shoot. Fast and easy controls combined with perfect balance make it in my book the best camera ever made for under 5000 usd.

This is a marvel of modern science that allows you to create amazing art . The camera is versatile, quick and user friendly . Even if you have never worked with a computer , which this is a VERY sophisticated version of , after about a week of practice you will be quite proficient. For ease of use , clarity and flexibility ...this is the best . The only drawback is its weight ...with a long lens it is a formidable piece to carry when hiking a long distance. All in all though....a 15+ out of 10 !!! Will NEVER go back to film ..particularly with the security problems at airports !
