Loved camera when I first got it. I had only had it a year and it messed up. The shutter jamed on it. When I bought this it costed me over $600.00 and I bought waranty but cannon says they can't find me in computer. To get fixed over $300 I guess it was good while it lasted. I am just very diapointed I paid that much for some thing and it only lasted a year. Be ware the people I called to fix it have had lots come in with lots of problems

I have had this camera for 6months and am totaly impressed with the clear, sharp images it produces. It is easy to use and is a wonderful camera for the on the go life style person. It's funtions are simple to change to and over all is well woth it's price. This is my 3rd digital camera and I use it more than the other two I have. It is also a good camera as a back up and reliable, just wish I could get diffrent lenses for it

Had this Canon for about a year now, it's my second digital camera, and second piece of Canon kit (also have a Canon Camcorder)I love the optical zoom and the image stabiliser is great. The menu is clear, I mainly use the viewfinder, but the small screen is useful when you have to hold the camera above somebodys head to take a shot. I bought a rather tight case to put the camera in and I'm always moving the diopter by accident which is a pain! I find the macro facility quite poor as the manual focus is fiddly, but I can live with it, you do get used to it. To sum up, it's a very good camera for the price, best feature, the optical zoom, brilliant.

I have had The S2 for about three weeks now. It has been great so far I have been able to get some nice shots with it. The only draw back for me I keep hitting the menu button with my thumb. (I do have big hands) other than that it’s great!

This is my second digital. The first love of my life is a Canon 20D. I bought the S2-IS in order to stay with the same technology and be lighter in weight for a European trip after a total hip replacement.

I love and used often the AEB and automatic focus bracketing. The latter worked especially well from the bus as I had placed a polarizer filter on an attachment in order to see through the windows without having a reflection. Even the mountains from afar came out well using this tool and the awesome telephoto zoom.

This is a great light weight camera for travel.

I'm very happy with my new Canon Powershot. I give it a 5. It's my first name brand camera. I love how you can shoot pictures through-the-lens and it's just the right weight to carry around. I also love that the macro button is in easy reach on the left. No problems so far. Melissa

i love this piece. my first camera and ive got it for about a month now but it allows me to shoot almost as freely as with a DSLR - am very happy with it except the fact that its very slow for some purposes. and a bit too good for only point and shoot. if it would work with RAW format it would be unreached in its price segment. its a great allrounder. get awsome light and exposure with it. its a bit tricky to use in dark areas though. needs adjusting to its few difficulties. have no problem with the handling except sometimes I push the macro button while holding it vertically. the supermacro feature is incredible makes pictures possible I would never expect from a "simple" digicam. I heard of the high quality of the pictures it delivers but didnt think I would be able to do it so soon myself. without experience in photography at all (although I was pretty interested in shooting as a child)

great camera for every purpose (maybe not exactly sports or some night photography but on a tripod its superb)

A nice little second camera for my Canon Digital Rebel XT. I do like the image stabilizer. It takes clear pictures with good color. It is the camera I pack in my purse and carry with me everywhere so as not to miss a shot.

My Olympus digital broke while on vacation in London and I bought this Canon PowerShot S2IS without any research. It's not bad...but I'm not really happy. The wide angle is very limited for sweeping landscapes. The buttons on the back are oddly placed -- I'm constantly turning on the menu accidently with my thumb!! I like the swivel monitor, but must slip on my reading glasses to see it (I am soooooooo old!). The image stablizer is nice. Color is good. Formats photos at about 24". I'm getting a lot of blurred photos but not sure why. Maybe I need stronger reading glasses!

This is my first "good" camera and the pictures it takes are amazing. The features are easy to identify and use and the camera seems to challenge me to learn how to use them intelligently. I purchased this camera during recovery from surgery and many of my first images were taken from my fourth story balcony. Now that I am walking, carrying the camera is like a passport that lets me really see my neighborhood and city as never before. I look forward to my class and hope to learn much more.

While i like my camera (i mean it's my camera!) the one thing that really bothers me about it is the focus. The lense cannot be adjusted manualy I(i have the lense that the camera came with), i mean of course there is zoom and that can be adjusted but i mean that to focus you have to half-way hold down the shot button (which is hard enough to do without accidently taking the picture) and wait about 3-5 seconds as the camera focuses. And that is if it even focuses at all. Sometimes i'll have to do that four or five times in order to get the shot. Other then that it's a great little first-time-digital-user camera.

Wish it had even more telephoto capability. It's hard to get some nature shots since you can't always get as close as you would like to animals. Sometimes images could be crisper. Otherwise good camera.

Well, compared to what I used to have, this is fantastic. It's a 5 megapixel, 12x optical zoom. I have a teleconverter and a wide angle lens for it. It takes, what I think for the price of the camera, nice macros - which is one of my favorite things to do. Someday I'll spend more money and get an even better camera. This has a tilting LCD which is a very nice feature.

Easy to use. There are so many features on this camera that it takes nearly two semesters to complete the instruction manuals. It has probably the best zoom of most cameras on the market. There are available add on lenses for wide angle and macro that make this a truly great camera for the guy who doesn't have a fortune to spend on a "professional" camera. The photos are crisp and clear and look truly professional.

Takes great pictures with little fuss, but also has most options for special situations. Great zoom lens, and image stabilization works amazingly well! Small and easy to handle, easy to take just about anywhere. One small niggle: some controls are too easy to accidently activate, like the manual focus button.

This is a wonderful camera. It offers a professional level shot with the light weight and point and shoot design of a regular smaller digital. It has clarity and captures images well. I love it. It's a great buy. The downside to the camera is that it has lower MP. Even the newest version the S3 IS, which I plan on buying doesn't have any higher than 6 MP. I only wish it was coming out with around 8 MP. Other wise, if you don't want poster size prints this is the best camera on the market for the price and it's functions in my opinion. I believe that Canon is the best camera company. Although, people prefer Nikon as well, I feel it's behind in it's technology. If you end up checking out the highest end cameras you'll find canon offers the most options. They even have a 16 MP camera out there- imagine that. :) WOW! Happy Shots, Holly

Extremely easy menu layout, flip-out monitor that lights in low lite, and the "My Colors" mode kills! Downside? All plastic body and UGH! plastic tripod threads...C'Mon!!!!

This was my first camera. Although it's an extremely versitile camera, if you are considering this camera, i'm telling you, go for a Digital SLR instead! It has some very cool features such as color swap and color selection, but these features are way too inaccurate, sorry. 5 megapixels are definately not enough. Too many pictures turn out too noisy. It's not a good camera for taking night pictures. It's a little too light (for my liking anyway). It takes WAY too long to take a perfect picture with it, it's much faster with a digital SLR atleast much faster with the Rebel XT and Olympus e300 Evolt. It uses 4 AA batteries. Even at 2500 mAh the batteries will last 1-1.5 days depending on use. I prefer the ION batteries that come with digital SLR cameras. It's a good camera, but if you are looking for something more than snapshots, or if you want more efficiency (NOT TO MENTION RAW FORMAT) then go for an SLR.

I love this camera. It takes fantastic shots and I can either control it manually or I can use the scene modes. Battery life is great with rechargables. I also love the rotating lcd screen. It makes it easy to take pictures when you need the camera to be in less than normal positions. Best of all there is a great viewfinder when you are in situations like bright daylight that make using the lcd screen very difficult. Or if you just want added stabalization leaning against your face. Oh yea, there is built in image stabalization. Great camera well worth the money.

Overall I am very pleased with my camera. I have a lens adapter, lens hood, and telephoto lens for the camera. There are two things I dislike about the camera. There is no 'sport setting' that some digital cameras have. That would come in handy with two active children. The other negative I find is that you cannot adjust the focus manually with ease. In order to adjust the focus manually, one must do a lot of button pushing and by then, the shot is usually lost. Those are my only negatives though!

Canon s2is 36-432 mm 12x optical 4 digital zoom east to handle compact, LCD screen small but tiltable to avoid glare, clear lens.. good manual control... BAD LENS CAP could buy anything but after reading about new ultrazooms mine is still a keeper... waiting for new sony Alpha's to see if upgrade is warranted but definately keeping S2 as backup

I like the manual control on it. I can learn how to use correct exposure, aperture, shutter speed etc. I can't change lens on it except attach a convertor. Wish I could buy a dSLR but it's still too expensive for me, as I am right now still a student. Maybe someday I can afford a dSLR. Hopefully.

An awesome camera, seems to have all the bells and whistles of an SLR, but was less expenisive. The best feature is the Super Macro setting, allowing you to get within a millimeter of your subject and get a clear picture. The worst thing is that it doesnt do great in poor lighting, especially for close up. Also, close-up the powerful flash will cause the subject to look washed out. Overall, an EXCELLENT camera... would reccomend for anyone!

I haven't had an opportunity to truly explore all of the functionality of the S2 IS. One of the key reasons I selected this camera, being a beginner, was the 12x optical zoom. It has an ISO range of 0.5 to 4.0 and a 270 degree viewable lcd screen. Due to a limited availability of lens/camera accessories, I haven't had an opportunity to explore some of these additive features. It could just be me, but I've struggeled with the lens stabilizer at times (certainly in low light - but even in daylight).

My S2-IS is very new, and was purchased for our upcoming trip as I'm recoverying from a total hip replacement. I like its light weight and the many options available to create the variety of lighting options. For example, reducing the flash two stops to allow the shadows to be filled, and the sunlight to come through the petals without overwhelming the exposure. I've had a lot of problems remembering the location of the various hidden menus to set various parameters. Perhaps, this is due to learning two cameras at the same time. I look forward to using the S2-IS and creating my own settings whenever possible. It's a good, possibly even great camera for the price.

As per my opinion, this particular camera is very good in terms of the image stabilization and the different effects and mode it has. The only problem is the cost of the add ons. But I felt this is just a good pick to start off your photography in a starting stage, lot of things to work around, and try out. The picture quality is marvelous. Love the clarity and the view window. Also like the extra zoom capability. Easy to hold. Hate the lens cover, it falls off and is cumbersome.

This is my first fairly expensive camera and so far I like it very much. I like the movable LCD screen, the 12x zoom. I do not like the fact that it does not have any features for action shots.

I've owned 3 digital cameras now, this Canon S1 IS being number three. I like it because for me, an absolute beginner, it's easy to use and at this stage, I need something that will challenge me, but not overwhelm me. I'm learning to navigate around the menu and functions, and I'm having a lot of fun doing it with this camera. Not real expensive and it will be around for me to pass on to one of my daughters when I'm in the upgrade mode...Great camera!!!

Canon Powershot S2 IS for family photography, travels, events and daily photography is excellent digital camera. Its 12x optical zoom and portability is remarkable option for ametuers. but as a photography fan,I think the newly announced lumix DMC L1 with its latest Leica created lens (based on fourthirds system) the first digital SLR of Panasonic is one of the excellent cameras for all level photoghraphers at the moment. So this panasonic's magic can be my future desired SLR camera.

This camera is great. It has all the features I need to take great photos. I especially like the TV mode where I can adjust the shutter speed to take a perfect picture in just about any situation. The videos it takes are also excellent. Another great part about it is the 12x zoom which lets you get real close up to even far away objects. Overall a great camera.

Many things I love about this camera: the long opitcal zoom, the movable screen, the zoomable video mode. I wish the LCD screen were bigger. My previous camera was a Casio Exilim and it has one feature I *sorely* miss on the Canon. It is called "Trimming" and allows you to zoom in on a pic just taken and take a picture of the zoomed portion. The Canon lets me zoom in, but I cannot take a picture. If it had that feature, I would give it a higher rating.

Canon Powershot S2 IS is an excelent camera for an amateur, but for professional use it's not so good. The image noise gets big over ISO 200 and the manual focus is hard to use because it has a digital controller. The best thing about this camera is the mobile LCD viewer and the 0cm super macro setting.

I have only had this camera for about a month, so I am still getting used to it. I decided to replace my G5 with it. Although there are some compromises(no RAW, slightly slower lense, smaller sensor) the 12x zoom and image stabilization are major pluses. I plan to buy a digital SLR sometime this year and the S2IS will be such a nice complement, the perfect camera to carry when I don't want to pack along an SLR. I do a lot of hiking and long distance cycling and it is such a versatile camera for these kinds of activities. The image quality is very good; if it is lower due to the smaller sensor, it is so slight as to be virtually undetectable.

This is my first digital. I absolutely love being able to review photos on the spot. The clarity and zoom/enlargement capability really appeals to me. i like the weight and size of it, being a little larger than many popular digitals. So far I have some beautiful pictures. i enjoy black and white photography and this camera has great features for that and so many others. On the negative side, auto focus is just a bit too slow for me. i have missed several shots of backyard birds.

Provides many options that are easy to get to. Really like the macro and super macro functions, which allow you to go down to 0 cm. One bad point - it does a poor job of reducing red eye because it uses a very weak green light to reduce the eye's iris - my other cameras use a pre-flash, which does a much better job

I like the special "my colors" and filter-type settings and it has enough controls for a beginner to learn on, but the ultimate range will eventually be limited by the two (only)add-on lenses.

I took a month or so decided on which camera to buy. I haven't worked with an SLR and was kind of intimidated, so I went for a point and shoot. I like the features that are offered with the Powershot (B&W, sepia, color enhansing, the great zoom, ect...). The only thing I was disappointed with was the Image Stabilizer feature. I'm still getting some blurred pictures even with a tri-pod and not sure why. It's a little big to be taking around for everyday use. But I'm using it mostly for portraits and weddings.

Just got this camera for my birthday. I wanted a high optical zoom, and got it with a 12x. I also love the anti-shake feature. The gig SD card isn't the fastest recording, but I can sure take a lot of photos at 5MP. I actually like using the optical viewfinder more than the LCD screen. It will also freeze the image for review after the shot. The size of LCD screen is large enough for a good image, though. So far, I haven't used it for much more than snapshots, and I haven't figured out the menues quite yet. I think that there are more features than I am going to need for a while, but I can see the limitations that the non-changable lenses are going to bring already. I'd like to get into macro and telephoto lenses. But that SLR is a ways away yet- this will do me fine for now.

For an inexpensive point and shoot digatal it does everything I need. I only have one complaint, in low light the auto focus is not great. Most of the pictures come out out of focus. Other than that its awesome.

I'm very happy with this camera, especially the rotating LCD screen which allows me to take pics from unusual positions that would be hard-to-impossible to take any other way. The macro & super-macro features are excellent, but I didn't realize that macro shots are better taken from several feet away vs inches (can get excellent bug shots as far away as 5' or more) and the super-macro locks itself so that there is no camera zoom, only manually moving the camera closer or farther from the subject (I'm sure this is in the manual somewhere). If you're shooting close to bees, wasps, etc. I highly recommend muting your operation sounds - bees seem very annoyed by them. Video is excellent & the sound is true stereo. If you're "taping" outside and it's windy, tape a bit of Kleenex over the mics to act as a windscreen. A great feature: the ability to take pics WHILE videotaping; only a momentary interruption. I haven't had much luck with the pre-sets and am disappointed to have only one CUSTOM and no FAST SHUTTER setting, which I used A LOT on my A80. The Menu button is easy to accidentally engage. It would be better if it were swapped with the SET button & make it easier to delete pics on the fly. I'm also training myself to flip-up the flash when needed; it's easy to forget this. CANON should provide snap-tite lens covers; this one falls off too easily & the lens could get scratched unknowingly. CANON should provide basic, specific photo help/tips for common shooting scenarios. EX: overcast (to keep from muddiness), sunny (to avoid overexposure), etc. I'm sure this camera has a lot of goodies I don't even know about yet. Maybe I should read the manual...

I love my Casio EXP600...fits in my pocket...

I love my Nikon D50 when I really want the feel of a 35mm camera in a digital

Now this S2...does lots of things great..BUT NOBODY tells you this...
it does something I haven't found on any camera or camcorder for that matter...Shoots in Slow Motion...

Try it this way...shoot some action video (tenis, baseball, diving etc)

No and this is very important...forget your computer...PLUG S2 into the biggest TV you have....you control the slo-mo from the camera...

It's just unreal- NO LOSS in color or sharpness at all...it's worth the price of the camera just for this feature all if your into shooting sports or have active kids you want to document....have fun...cheers

I've had this camera for about 2 wks now and I have to say that I'm glad I got it. Keep in mind that I'm very new to digital photography and photography in general, but I'll say that it actually didn't take me very long to figure things out. I've not shot in the auto mode yet because I like the challenge of figuring out what does what. The size is perfect and the quality of pictures is magnificent - for me.

I really like the size of this camera - it's small enough to tote around on it own on hikes easily, but I can also buy conversion lenses for it and it feels like an SLR. My only gripe is that it takes awhile to focus in low light and the manual focus mode is awkward and time-consuming to manipulate.

SUPERB..... I needed a camera to fit between my Canon A 70 point and shoot and my Pentax ist DS, SLR. This Canon S2IS has taken over for the other two on most occasions. It is very quick and handy, with many great features to numerous to go into here. After reading as many reviews as I could find and taking memory cards to the camera shops and actually using the cameras I was interested in, the S2 was the clear winner. I've had mine about 3 weeks and over 1800 images and am still very impressed with the feature set and capability of this camera. If you want great image quality, fantastic zoom, and lots of control or as a point and shooter, you can't go wrong with this imaging tool.

This camera is GREAT! Ultra ZOOM 12X, image stabilizer, and great color adjust modes built-in (Accent, swap, etc). It is the best camera I have ever seen, and the price is unbeatable, under $500 (I actually have paid $395 on a tax free caribbean island. Incredible price for what you get out of the box) I bought this as an upgrade from my S1 IS, and what an upgrade! A lot of new features, more optical zoom, more Megapixels, larger LCD Display, Low light assist lamp and more. And the Vari-angle LCD is something that impressed myself, because I always saw this feature as useless, but now I cannot live without it. Now I can take pictures from high above, near the ground or with the back of the camera touching a wall on my mini-tripod and still have a clear view of the LCD.

I enjoy the long zoom range and excellent image stabilization on the S2 IS. I moved to this model from the S1 IS, and the Digic II processor has greatly improved the speed of focus and operation. This model has a wide range of features, and it's video capabilites are among the best availabe for digital still cameras. The menu system is easy to understand and navigate, and the layout of controls on the camera is very intuitive and user-friendly, allowing quick access to settings that are changed most often.

My second digital camera. Very well pleased so far. I have had it about 4 months and it takes great photos. So many settings and possibilities I am still experimenting. Needs a large card, I use a 1 Gb. Seems to shoot indoors without flash very well. I prefer Program AE mode but is easy to use for beginners and advanced amateurs alike. EVF is sometimes hard to see in bright sunlight. Some minor focusing problems at times.

Pros: It has a great 12x optical zoom built-in with Image Stabilization giving me an effective telephoto length of 435mm approx. at decent speeds 2.8 - 3.5. Lots of manual controls similiar to many DSLRs (spot, center, evaluative metering, white balance control, aperature & shutter priority, full manual control) with dedicated buttons for metering, MF, AE/FE lock etc. Video recording with stereo audio. Lots of good accessories tele-converter and wide angle adapters. Uses rechargeable NIMH batteries and SD cards for memory. Affordable price. Cons: No RAW mode. Video compression isn't great (8 mins. of video = 1 GB files). Lens is non-swapable (then again it's not a DSLR). No bulb mode.

I am new to the better digital cameras. I have had several less expensive ones, but wanted to upgrade to a good camera. This camera does everything. The scene features, including fireworks, snow and beach, are wonderful as is the ability to shoot video with sound while taking still images at the same time. It even acts as a slr with adaptor to accept different lenses and filters. The only drawback is the lens cover which is light and flimsy and doesn't fit well. My only other hope is that in the future a marine case is made for underwater photography.

The Canon Powershot S2 IS is a wonderful prosumer camera. It is suitable for beginers and experts alike. The camera's 12x zoom is nice to get close to many things you would be unable to capture before such as wilflife and people across the way. The movie mode is also awesome being able to capture full motion (30fps) at 640x480 resolution in stereo! To learn more about my passions with this camera, visit my myspace group dedicated to it! http://groups.myspace.com/s2is Oh yea, only one major complaint! NO RAW! :'(

I was torn between the G6 and Canon's new S2 IS, but chose the latter because of its 12x optical zoom. I love the way it feels in my hand, the ease of framing a shot, and the possibility to select from a huge array of operations and settings.

PROS: Very good manual capabilities for a p&S. Allows you to set flash adn ambient exposure seperately. Flash is completely manual (does not pop up unless you tell it to). Great zoom. Good battery time with AA's. Quick to turn on. CONS: Difficulty focusing on low contrast scenes. Manual focus (although it is at least available) is very slow to use. Overall Impression is very good. While it is not an SLR, it makes good photos, is fairly compact and takes great movies, which you can't get on an SLR (that I know of).

The s2is takes sharp pictures with very good color, Its very fast and the image stabilisation is great. It works well with my 2 gig sd card. The 12x optical zoom really gets out there. Battery life is exceptional, about 1500 pictures with 2500ma recharchables. The only thing I dislike is under low light conditions the camera seems much slower than others i have used.

I love the features of the camera, I am somewhat color blind and I have to trust that the settings are going to automate properly

I've had the S2 IS for about two months now and I must admit that it is a great camera. I've gone through and read all the other reviews for this camera and I do agree with everyone on the quality, features ect..ect, so I won't get into that. What I'm going to talk about is durability! I was worried when I bought this camera that it just wouldn't stand up to the abuse I know I was going to put it through. I'm always outdoors doing something so, knocks, falls, dings, dust, dirt and water seem to always do battle with my electronic "toys". I can't count how many cell phones, cameras, walkmans...ect..ect, I've had damaged or even destroyed by Mother Nature's wrath. When I took the camera out of the box I was worried because of how beautiful the camera is. I thought to myself, damn, this thing just reeks beauty which seems to attract extra attention from the elements for some reason. Not the case with this camera though. I've dropped it once, had it covered in sand and covered in water by a salty wave while deep-sea fishing. I've even put it to the ultimate test....CHILDREN,,,nooo,nnooo,,Ahhhahhhh!!!! These same children managed to break my Leatherman WAVE tool the first five minuets they possessed the thing; how could a camera possibly survive such grappling, clenching, twisting, clumsy, sticky, dirty hands? It did though. I know you may think I'm stupid for putting such a nice camera through such treatment but, I'm one that likes to use what I buy right along with how I live. I'm not a clean freak, stay behind closed doors, air-conditioned type. I also remember how it used to feel as kid when no one would trust me with a "cool", expensive piece of equipment. It's only a camera and if the kids can feel good by being trusted enough to use it, I'm going to let them use it. After all this wear and tear, the only damage I can see is minor cosmetic damage such as scratches. The lens is still as clean as a brand-new. The only problem I had was when the camera locked up one time with the lens sticking out. No buttons would work and I couldn't get the thing to respond to anything; I began to worry; one of the kids brought it to me in this condition. After opening the battery housing door and closing it again the camera came back to life and is again in perfectly working order. I love this camera, after all it's been through it still starts up quickly, uploads quickly, takes beautiful pictures and zooms in and out smoothly. I'm glad I decided to wait for the S2 rather than settling for the S1 but,..... Yes there's always a but.... There is no underwater housing for this camera yet. If I'd of known this I would have chosen a different camera. In fact, if Canon does not make an underwater housing I'll never buy Canon again. That's why I took away a star from it's perfect rating so far. I've been pestering Canon every day now to build an underwater housing with no luck, can you help????? PLEEEASSEE! So, if your looking for a pretty, powerful camera and don't plan on taking it underwater, this is the camera for you. Good shooting!

The Canon Powershot S2 IS is a great camera, in my opnion. It's my first really nice camera. I have taken some really great shots with it. The only dissapointing thing about it thus far is that it does not have a setting for action shots. Other than that, I really love it. Still learning how to use it, but it's great! I look at it as my starter camera.

I've had my S2 IS for about a month. It replaced a PS A20 as my "keep in the purse" camera, and has been a great success. The Image Stabilized lens takes great action shots, even when I've zoomed out to the limit of the 12x optical zoom. It goes from fully automated to fully manual exposure, with the "standard" preset exposures (landscape, portrait, action), as well as shutter and aperture priority. The high set flash gives good coverage, especially when used as a fill or for close subjects. My main complaint with the camera is lack of RAW capability. I've seen other reviews complaining about limitations of the camera's video functions, but to them I say "if you want to shoot video, buy a video camera!" Overall, a great choice for a point and shoot camera.

I love taking photos, but being an ameture, I know little about the technical aspect of photography. I really like my Canon PowerShot S1 IS because it has a nice selection of options that are user friendly.

I just received the camera as a gift, but already realize it is easier for me to use than the Fuji Finepix so I am satisfied for the moment with it.

First of all I'm not sure why the S2 IS is listed under 'Discontinued Cameras" when it is brand new. Weird.

I just got this camera recently and I am very impressed so far. Picture quality is good, and there are a lot of different modes for different types of photos. I wouldn't buy this camera if you are a beginner though, it is supposedly easy to use for even beginners but I disagree. The LCD monitor is great, a little on the small side but the ability to rotate it comes in very handy. I haven't used the movie function yet but I've heard amazing things about it. The manual is a piece of junk if you ask me, but that shouldn't stop you from buying this superb camera! :D I do suggest the use of a tripod dispite the image stabilization feature.

Overall a fantastic camera for those starting to become serious about their photography.

Specifically, I like 12X zoom, the ability to angle to LCD and keep it closed/protected when not in use. Generally, I like the whole package!

MY REVIEW OF THE S2 PROS Overall – this is a very good camera . There are many more features to this camera than there are in all the advertisements I have seen ( to tell the truth – I was a bit overwhelmed at first ) . The “super macro” mode is fantastic ( but it will not work in “auto” & must be held in to activate ) . The speed of the camera - for taking “multiple shots” is great . I also like the “custom” feature when using the “self timer” - so you can set it to go off whenever you want ( e.g. – if you have along way to go OR the ground is awkward ) . Also in the self timer mode I love the fact you can set the camera to take up to “10” photos ( one after the other without having to go back to the camera yourself ) . The auto focus / low light lamp works well . The video works well as well ( although I haven’t used it that much – yet ) If any of you like to photograph images off of a computer screen – it does that very well BUT ONLY if you Have an LCD monitor – otherwise you have lines ( the digital camera seesthem but are not visible to the human eye ) . I would suggest to anyone considering this camera for video or multiple shooting to purchase high speed memory cards ( the longer the better for video ) . CONS The lens cap is far to lose & is knocked off often . If you have big hands the camera may feel awkward ( it did to me at first – but I soon got used to it ) . If I had been in the designers shoes I would have put the “set & menu” buttons where the “jump & S” buttons are & put the “Jump & S” buttons elsewhere ( possibly along the bottom ) .
