Very versatile, easy to use camera. Good results in all modes, even though I'm a total beginner. Love it!

The Finepix F610 is the successor to the F601z,which I reviewed elsewhere on this site. It's predecessor was a great little camera,so how does it compare? It has the same basic vertical format,35-105mm equivalent zoom but offers a 1.8 LCD,split screen and 1,2,3 or 6MP.It has an interpolation up to 12mp,but as this comes with a cost,I never use it. The camera is a little fiddly to use-(the wrist strap is essential for security, more so than on the F601 as it offers even less of a grip!),although once used to it this camera becomes intuitive in every respect-something I liked about its prototype-but more so. The great thing about the F601 is it's response time - shutter lag is hardly existant, and this camera is possibly even faster-both on start up and frame to frame. It also features a rapid 5 frame shooting sequence. The F610 offers auto, manual (SP,AP,M)and scene modes,a chrome (for vivid skies)and black and white setting. The proof of the pudding is in the eating and this camera really delivers crisp, colourful images, which enlarge easily beyond 10x8. Download is swift via the docking station and Fujifilm software is as good/bad as any other I've come across. I have only one serious criticism of this well constructed (aluminium) highly pocketable, take anywhere camera, and that is in low ambient light. The LCD blocks up,making it night on impossible to see a picture, even to usef flash. The camera still delivers, but you may as well just switch off the LCD and use the (78%)optical viewfinder!
