I would say this is a very good lens. I use it with my Nikon F65, and with 28-80 nikkor zoom it makes great combo.
Pics have nice colors are are very sharp if you are carefull with using it. The best results when stoped down to F8 or more and at 70-200mm. It is slow lens, so have your tripod with you or use faster film (400 ISO). Build quality is not bad - a little stif zoom ring and a little too loose focusing ring.
And the best part - it has nice macro function at 300mm. Not a true macro lens, but you can get nice resaults. It is a bit difficult to work with it because at 300mm dept of field is very very shalow so you must stop it down a lot, and that makes it even slower - you need a tripod every time!!!
To sum up - very capable lens for very reasonable price.
